The Jews Counsel to Kill Saul - Acts 9:23

The physician Luke wrote how, “Saul was certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came here for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ”, and in chapter nine and verse twenty-three of the book of Acts Luke shared, “after many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him” where we read:

And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him:

The verse begins, “And after that many days were fulfilled, ... Luke began with the words, “and after that many days” which means “and when a great number of sunrises to sunsets” “were fulfilled” or “had passed, were completed or rendered full” the following occurred. Luke shared how a number of “days” passed by, and the following event happened.

The verse continues, ... the Jews took counsel to kill him:Luke added the words, “the Jews took counsel” which means “the people of the Jewish nation by birth, origin or religion deliberated” “to kill him” or “to destroy, abolish and slay Saul”. Luke shared how the people in the Jewish nation, the religious leaders, deliberated to “destroy” “Saul”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “leaders in the Jewish nation” did not believe “Saul's” teaching and preaching, but rather met together to decide how to “kill” him. It did not take long for these “believers in the Jewish faith” to understand the effect “Saul” was having upon people, and since they were opposed to Jesus, they were certain to be opposed to anyone who taught about Him. God loves people, and His saving grace is for anyone who will submit their lives to His Son Jesus. Those who yield to Him will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. Let all who read these words submit themselves to Jesus and allow all opposition to them to be yielded to God who alone is able to judge and justify those who believe in Him.

Next time Luke shares how the Jews, “watched the gates day and night to kill him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
