Your Daughter is Dead - Mark 5:35

Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, You see the multitude thronging you, and say you, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing. But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth. And he said unto her, Daughter, your faith has made you whole; go in peace, and be whole of your plague”, and in chapter five and verse thirty-five of his book, Mark writes how as servant from Jairus' house told him, “your daughter is dead” where we read:

While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Your daughter is dead: why trouble you the Master any further?

The verse reads, “While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house certain which said, Your daughter is dead:” Mark began with the words, “while he yet spake” or “during the time when Jesus was speaking to the woman”, “there came from the ruler of the synagogue's house” which means “a person appeared from Jairus' house who was the overseer of the worship center called the synagogue” “certain which said” or “a particular person who uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “your daughter is dead” which means “Jairus' daughter is perished, without breath and living no more”. Mark shared how the person or messenger from “Jairus' house” came to declare to him that his “daughter” was now “deceased”.

The verse goes on to say, “why trouble you the Master any further?” Mark continued with the words, “why trouble you” which means “for what reason and cause does Jairus vex, annoy or harass” “the Master” or “the One who teaches concerning the things of God and the duties of man” “any further” which means “any more, longer or still”? Mark shared how the messenger from Jairus' home wondered why he should “bother or annoy” Jesus any more since his daughter was dead.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see what appears to be a futile and useless state. Why would Jesus be needed if Jairus' “daughter” was already “dead”? This messenger thought in the natural way of doing things, and his appraisal of the situation was that it was “useless” to have Jesus come. God works in the supernatural, and even though Jesus “stopped” to acknowledge the woman with the issue of blood along the way, the messenger's “bad news” was only inspiration for Him. God desires to have a loving personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and over and over again in the scriptures Jesus is shown to handle “impossible” situations. Those who are wise will come to Him regardless of how “dire” a circumstance may be and watch as He works out everything to the good of them who love Him and call upon His name.

Your Faith has Made You Whole - Mark 5:34

And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. The verse reads, “And he said unto her, Daughter, your faith has made you whole;” Mark began with the words, “and he said” or “and Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed” “unto her” which means “to the woman who had the issue of blood”, “Daughter” or “daughter acceptable to God who rejoices in God's particular care and protection”, “your faith” which means “the woman's assurance, conviction, belief and fidelity” “has made you whole” or “has saved the woman from perishing, suffering from disease, made her well and restored her to health”. Mark shared how Jesus told the woman that her “belief and trust” made her well.

The verse continues, “go in peace, and be whole of your plague.” Mark added the words, “go in peace” which means “depart, withdraw and retire with a state of tranquility, harmony, concord, security, safety, prosperity and felicity”, “and be whole” or “and be preserved and rescued from the danger” “of your plague” which means “pertaining to the woman's calamity, misfortune and disease”. Mark shared how Jesus told the woman to “depart” with a sense of tranquility as she has been “rescued” from her terrible “disease”.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus acknowledged the “faith” of this woman, and because she “believed”, she would now leave Him in “harmony, concord and prosperity” because her “disease” was gone. Jesus loved restoring health to people, and when their lives were changed by Him, “peace” would enter. God's desire is to “save” and set free every person from the “disease of sin” which “plagues” them, and by believing and trusting in His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, they shall be “made whole” and “go in peace”. Let all who read these words understand the gravity of their “spiritual plague” and come to Jesus in “faith and trust” that He is able to make them whole.

The Woman Discloses the Truth - Mark 5:33

Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And his disciples said unto him, You see the multitude thronging you, and say you, Who touched me? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing”, and in chapter five and verse thirty-three of his book, Mark writes how, “the woman fearing and trembling … came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth” where we read:

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her,

came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

The verse reads, “But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, …” Mark began with the words, “but the woman” or “nevertheless, moreover and the woman who had the issue of blood” “fearing and trembling” which means “struck with fear, seized with alarm, afraid and shaking in terror”, “knowing what was done in her” or “perceiving, understanding, noticing and discerning what happened within her body”. Mark shared how the “woman with the issue of blood” was “struck with fear and shaking in terror” because she knew she had been healed.

The verse goes on to say, “... came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.” Mark continued with the words, “came and fell down” which means “arose, appeared and prostrated herself about bowed” “before him” or “in the presence and front of Jesus”, “and told him” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed to Jesus” “all the truth” or “each, every, the whole and everything”. Mark shared how the woman approached Jesus, prostrated herself before Him and “told” Him everything about her experience.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how this “woman” must have been surprised that Jesus stopped to question who “touched” Him. Because she knew she had been healed, she came before Jesus “with fear and shaking” as she bowed before Him. She told Him everything about her condition, seeing doctors and spending all she had. She also told Him about her desire just to “touch” His clothing, and she conveyed how she was “made whole” once her goal was achieved. Jesus must have smiled as He observed this woman's faith, and even though she was greatly afraid, Jesus was the best person to receive her. God knows His presence and appearance may be intimidating to some, and those who really think about His majesty and glory are certain to “fear and shake” before Him. Nonetheless, His desire is that they would come to Him through His Son Jesus who is known as “the prince of peace”.

The Woman Who Did This - Mark 5:32

And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes? And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

The verse reads, “And he looked round about to see her …” Mark began with the words, “and he looked round about” or “and Jesus looked all around” “to see her” which means “to observe, perceive, notice and discern the woman”. Mark shared how Jesus “looked” all around Him so He could discover this woman.

The verse continues, “... that had done this thing.” Mark added the words, “that had done” which means “who had produced, constructed, made ready and prepared” “this thing” or “the idea of touching Jesus for healing”. Mark shared how Jesus desired to acknowledge the “person” who “touched” Him so that “virtue” proceeded from Him.

When we consider Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus stopped His gate toward Jairus' house, looked around and determined to know who “touched” Him in this faith filled way. Jesus knew this woman's “touch” was different, and He wanted to recognize her for her “faith”. God desires people to come to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they “believe and trust” in Him, He not only will “forgive” their sins, but also bless them with “everlasting life”.

The Multitudes Thronging Jesus - Mark 5:31

And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague. And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?”, and in chapter five and verse thirty-one of his book, Mark writes how Jesus' disciples asked Him why He questioned, “who touched” His “clothes” where we read:

And his disciples said unto him, You see the multitude thronging you, and say you, Who touched me?

The verse reads, “And his disciples said unto him, You see the multitude thronging you, …” Mark began with the words, “and his disciples” or “and Jesus' students, pupils and attendants” “said unto him” which means “uttered, declared, proclaimed and questioned Jesus”, “you see the multitude” or “Jesus you perceive, notice, discern and discover the crowd and large group of people” “thronging you” which means “compressing and pressing upon Jesus”. Mark shared Jesus' disciples made note of the fact that people were “pressing” Him on every side.

The verse goes on to say, “... and say you, Who touched me?” Mark continued with the words, “and say you” which means “and Jesus uttered, declared, proclaimed and questioned”, “who touched me” or “what person clung to, assailed, adhered to and clung to Jesus' garments or apparel”? Mark shared how Jesus' disciples wondered why Jesus would question “who touched His clothing” because there were so many people “pressing against” Him.

When we think through Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus' disciples could not understand why Jesus would question as to who “touched” Him. People were touching Jesus as they pressed against Him while He was walking along, but Jesus knew the difference between their “touch” and the “touch” of this woman. Though people do not understand everything that Jesus experienced in His life, He knew the difference between a “woman” who desired to “touch” Him for healing and those who were just nearby. God wants people to reach out to Him in faith, and when they put their “faith and trust” in His Son Jesus, they shall find not only does He know when they do, but also is able to meet their needs regardless of what they are.

Who Touched My Clothes? - Mark 5:30

Mark wrote how, “there came one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet. And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray you, come and lay your hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live. And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him. And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years. And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse. When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment. For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole. And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague”, and in chapter five and verse thirty our of his book, Mark writes how Jesus asked, “who touched my clothes?” where we read:

And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him,

turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?

The verse reads, “And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, …” Mark began with the words, “and Jesus” or “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation”, “immediately knowing in himself” which means “straightway and forthwith Jesus perceived, understood and ascertained” “that virtue” or “that strength, power and ability” “had gone out of him” which means “went forth, issued and emanated from Jesus”. Mark shared Jesus “knew” right away that “power and ability” had left Him.

The verse continues, “... turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?” Mark added the words, “turned him about” which means “turned back” “in the press” or “within the throng, pressing and crowd of people”, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared, proclaimed and questioned”, “who touched my clothes” or “what person clung to, assailed, adhered to and clung to Jesus' garments or apparel”? Mark shared how Jesus turned around and asked “what person” had “grabbed” His clothing.

When we meditate upon Mark's words in this verse, we see how Jesus knew when “power and ability” left His body. The “woman” reached out to “touch” His clothing by faith, and the power within Jesus was released so that she was made whole. God loves people to reach out to Him, and when they attempt to “touch” Him through His Son Jesus, “ability and power” are released from Him so they might be saved. Let all who read these words follow the example of this woman and “reach out and touch” Jesus today.
