The People Served the LORD - Judges 2:7

In the book of Judges we learned, “when Joshua had let the people go, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land”, and in chapter two and verse seven of Judges, we learn how, “the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua”, where we read,

And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.

The verse reads, “And the people served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, …” The writer began with the words, “and the people” which means “and the human beings of Israel” “served the LORD” or “worked, labored and worshiped Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “all the days of Joshua” which means “each, every and the whole sunrises to sunsets pertaining to Joshua whose name means Jehovah is salvation”, “and all the days” or “and each, every and the whole sunrises to sunsets” “of the elders that outlived Joshua” which means “pertaining to the aged and older men who had authority and lived longer than Joshua whose name means ‘Jehovah is salvation’”. (See Joshua 24:31) The writer shared how the “people” of Israel worshiped and worked for Jehovah God during the time of “Joshua” and the aged men who lived longer than him. 

The verse goes on to say, “… who had seen all the great works of the LORD, that he did for Israel.” The writer continued with the words, “who had seen” which means “who observed and noticed” “all the great works” or “each, every and the whole of the mighty and important acts and deeds” “of the LORD” which means “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and is the proper name for the One True God”, “that he did for Israel” or “that he, Jehovah God, performed and produced on behalf of Israel whose name means ‘God prevails” and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. The writer shared how the “people of Israel” observed the numerous, important and mighty acts and deeds performed by Jehovah God for them.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how the human beings of Israel worshiped and worked for Jehovah God during the time “Joshua” was among them. They observed every mighty act that Jehovah God did on their behalf, and they were more than willing to labor for Him in response. God wants us to recognize what He has done for us especially how He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to help us live in keeping with that truth while we notice all the mighty acts He has performed on our behalf. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; Ephesians 3:20)
