Heaviness in the Heart of Man - Proverbs 12:25

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-five of Proverbs Solomon said, “ heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop” where we read,

Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: but a good word makes it glad.

The verse begins, “Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop:” Solomon began with the words, “heaviness in heart of man” or “anxiety or anxious care within the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “makes it stoop” which means “causes the heart to bow down, prostrate, humbly beseech and do obeisance”. Solomon shared when the soul and mind of a person is anxious and filled with worry it causes them to bow down and humble themselves.

The verse goes on to say, “but a good word makes it glad.” Solomon continued with the words, “but a good word” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover a pleasant, agreeable, excellent, appropriate and valuable speech, utterance, advice and answer” “makes it glad” which means “causes the heart of a person to rejoice, be gladdened and joyful”. Solomon shared how an excellent and valuable utterance causes the heart of a persons to rejoice and become joyful.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon about humility and depression that is brought upon a person when distressing and anxious cares overwhelm their souls and minds. When this happens, just a “word” of comfort and encouragement can turn the demeanor of a person to joyful. God knows we shall experience difficult circumstances and situations, and sometimes, those trials trouble our souls. God loves us, and because we have sin in our lives, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross to pay the price of death for those sins. (See Romans 6:23) When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and speak to our “hearts” when we encounter anxious times. Then wee shall rejoice in Him who has overcome every trial, trouble and tribulation that is in the world. (See John 16:33)

The Hand of the Diligent - Proverbs 12:24

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “A prudent man conceals knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-four of Proverbs Solomon said, “the hand of the diligent shall bear rule” where we read,

The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.

The verse begins, “The hand of the diligent shall bear rule:” Solomon began with the words, “the hand of the diligent” or “the strength, power, support and order belonging to people who are sharp-pointed, incisive and determined” “shall bear rule” which means “will have dominion, reign and power”. Solomon shared how the strength and power of people who are incisive and determined will reign and have dominion.

The verse continues, “but the slothful shall be under tribute.” Solomon added the words, “but the slothful” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people who are slack, deceitful, lax and idle” “shall be under tribute” which means “will exist beneath tributary, levy and forced labor”. Solomon said the person who is lazy and idle will exist beneath levy and forced labor.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are determined and incisive will have power and reign, however, people who are idle and lazy will exist beneath forced labor and as a tributary. God wants us to be “diligent”, and He will reward us according to His perfect will and plan. God was industrious when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and help us to be sharp-pointed and determined as we live before His eyes.

A Prudent Man Concealing Knowledge - Proverbs 12:23

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-three of Proverbs Solomon said, “a prudent man conceals knowledge” where we read,

A prudent man conceals knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.

The verse begins, “A prudent man conceals knowledge:” Solomon began with the words, “a prudent man” or “a person whether male or female who is subtle, shrewd, crafty and sensible” “conceals knowledge” which means “spreads over, covers for protection and hides perception, discernment, skill and understanding”. Solomon shared how the person who is shrewd and sensible hides perception and discernment.

The verse goes on to say, “but the heart of fools proclaims foolishness.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the heart of fools” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections belonging to dullards, stupid fellows, simpletons and arrogant ones” “proclaims foolishness” which means “utters, declares and cries out folly and silliness”. Solomon said the souls, minds and wills of people who are simpletons and stupid declare folly and silliness.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon how people who are shrewd and sensible cover over perception and discernment, however, the soul of simpletons shout aloud their silliness. God wants us to have understanding and perception, and when we receive it, we should manage the revelation of it according to His desire. God loves us, and He proved His love when He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for our sins. When we surrender our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us through His Holy Spirit how to protect His revelation and not speak in silliness like “foolish” people do.

The Abominable Lying Lips - Proverbs 12:22

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “there shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-two of Proverbs Solomon said, “lying lips are an abomination to the LORD” where we read,

Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

The verse begins, “Lying lips are abomination to the LORD:” Solomon began with the words, “lying lips” or “deceptive, disappointing, fraudulent and wrong physical lips used for speaking” “are an abomination” which means “exist as disgusting, abhorrent and idolatrous” “to the LORD” or “to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon shared how fraudulent and deceptive lips used for speaking exist as disgusting and abhorrent to Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “but they that deal truly are his delight.” Solomon added the words, “but they that deal truly” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people whether male or female who fashion, make, produce and work in a firm, faithful, steadfast and morally steady manner” “are his delight” which means “exist as his, Jehovah God's, pleasure, favor, goodwill, acceptance and desire”. Solomon said people who act and work in a morally faithful and steadfast manner exist as Jehovah God pleasure and desire.

When we think through Solomon's words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God is opposed to speaking lies and favors speaking the truth. God wants us to follow His way of living, and because we have violated His ways through sin, He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our errors and wrongs. When we yield our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit so we will use our voices to proclaim His moral and steadfast manner every where we go.

No Evil to the Just - Proverbs 12:21

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace is joy”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty-one of Proverbs Solomon said, “there shall no evil happen to the just” where we read,

There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.

The verse begins, “There shall no evil happen to the just:” Solomon began with the words, “there shall no evil” or “trouble, sorrow, idolatry or wickedness will in no way” “happen to the just” which means “meet, encounter, approach or be allowed to meet toward people who are right, correct and lawful”. Solomon shared how wickedness and trouble does not occur within the life of people who are right and correct.

The verse goes on to say, “but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.” Solomon continued with the words, “but the wicked” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover people who are criminal, guilty of crimes, evil and hostile to God” “shall be filled” which means “will exist as full, satisfied, accomplished and consecrated” “with mischief” or “by the use of that which is bad, disagreeable, unpleasant and displeasing”. Solomon said people who are evil and hostile to God are satiated and filled with unpleasantness and that which is bad.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover and interesting thought from Solomon. His idea is that bad and wickedness happens less in a person's life who acts in a correct and lawful manner, however, people who are evil and hostile to God encounter troubles and unpleasantness all the time. God has a plan and purpose for our lives, and sometimes those plans involve troubles. Jesus Himself encountered “evil” when He died on the cross for the sins of the world, but there was a reason for this “mischief”. God purposed to have an eternal personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the understanding and strength to endure whatever temporary “troubles” enter our lives to accomplish His eternal purposes.

Deceitful Hearts - Proverbs 12:20

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “the lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment”, and in chapter twelve and verse twenty of Proverbs Solomon said, “deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil” where we read,

Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counselors of peace is joy.

The verse begins, “Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil:” Solomon began with the words, “deceit is in the heart” or “treachery, falsehood, guile and subtlety exists within the soul, mind, will, desires, living being, conscience and seat of emotions and affections” “of them that imagine evil” which means “belonging to people whether male or female who cut in, engrave, plow and remain silent to bad, disagreeableness, malignancy, unpleasantness and unkindness”. Solomon said falsehood and treachery exists within the souls of people who engrave and remain silent to unkindness and that which is bad.

The verse continues, “but to the counselors of peace is joy.” Solomon added the words, “but to the counselors” or “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover toward the people who advise, give counsel, conspire and devise plans” “of peace” which means “pertaining to calm, tranquility, completeness, soundness, welfare, health and prosperity” “is joy” or “exists mirth, gladness, gaiety and pleasure”. Solomon said people who give counsel and devise plans of tranquility and health have gladness and pleasure in their lives.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Solomon the difference between the souls of people who use their thoughts for devising treachery or falsehood and those who give advice and counsel for tranquility and calm. The first group, lives in falsehood and guile, and the second group lives in gladness and pleasure. The choice should be easy for us, however, a sin nature that is within us will keep us from being in a personal relationship with God that promotes “peace” with “joy”. God was aware of this, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind so we could believe and trust in Him to have our sins forgiven, inherit eternal life and be shown the way to “peace and joy” by His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and away from a “deceitful” heart that “imagines evil”.
