Matthew shared how Jesus was “baptized” and “tempted” by the “devil”, and he wrote, “Then the devil left him, and, behold, angels came and ministered unto him. Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee. And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. And he said unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him. And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.”, and in chapter four and verse twenty-three of his book, Matthew shared how Jesus, “went about all Galilee, teaching...preaching...and healing” where we read:
And
Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and
preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of
sickness and all manner of disease among the people.
The verse reads, “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, ...” Matthew began with the words, “and Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation” and is “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate” “went about” or “walked and lead himself around” “all Galilee” which refers to “everywhere and in every place within the region of northern Palestine which was bounded on the north by Syria, on the west by Sidon, Tyre, Ptolemais and their territories and the promontory of Carmel which is on the south by Samaria and on the east by the Jordan”, “teaching” which means “holding discourse with others in order to instruct them and deliver didactic discourses” “in their synagogues” or “within their assemblies of Jews formally gathered together to offer prayers and listen to the reading and expositions of the scriptures”, “and preaching” or “and heralding, proclaiming, publishing and proclaiming openly” “the gospel” which means “the glad tidings and good news” “of the kingdom” or “pertaining to the royal power, dominion, rule and kingship of God”. Matthew shared how Jesus “walked” throughout “Galilee” and began teaching and preaching about the “Kingdom of God and Heaven”.
The verse continues, “... and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.” Matthew added the words, “and healing” which means “and curing and restoring to health”“all manner of sickness” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of the” “and all manner of disease” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the infirmities and sicknesses” which refers to “ infirmities, debilities and bodily weaknesses” “among the people” or “with the tribes, stock, language and population”. Matthew shared how Jesus was “curing and healing all kinds of “sicknesses and diseases” which the people in Galilee incurred.
When we think through Matthew's words in this verse, we see how Jesus not only “preached and taught” about the “gospel” of the “Kingdom of Heaven”, but He also “healed” people who were “sick” and had “disease”. God desired to “save people from their sins”, and He sent His Son Jesus into the world not only to “proclaim” the “gospel” but also to demonstrate the power of it. May all who read these words consider the Messiah Jesus who came to “teach, preach, heal and save” all who are affected by the results of sin.
Next time Matthew shares how Jesus', “fame went throughout all Syria” so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
