The beloved physician Luke shared how “Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, You men of Athens, I perceive that in all things you are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore you ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you”, and in chapter seventeen and verse twenty-four of the book of Acts Luke shared how Paul referred to, “God that made the world and all things therein” where we read:
God that made the world and all things therein,
seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made with hands;
The verse begins, “God that made the world and all things therein, ...” Luke began with the words, “God that made the world” which means “the Heavenly Father God who made ready and produced the universe and circle of the earth” “and all things therein” or “and each, every, the whole and everything that is in the world”. Luke shared how “Paul” told the “philosophers” how it was “Father God in Heaven” who created the world and everything within it.
The verse goes on to say, “... seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples made with hands;” Luke continued with the words, “seeing that” or “since, because and on account that” “he is the Lord of heaven” which means “he, God the Father, is the One to whom a person or thing belongs about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title to God the Messiah belonging to the region above the sidereal heavens, the seat of order of things eternal and consummately perfect where God dwells and other heavenly beings” “and earth” or “and arable land, territory and region”, “dwells not in temples” which means “does not settle or inhabit a sacred edifice or sanctuary” “made with hands” or “produced by the skill of men's hands”. Luke shared how “Paul” referred to how “God” is the “master” of both “heaven and earth”, and He is not limited to “sacred worship” places that are built by man's skills.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” continued to share about “God Almighty” who “created” the “heavens and the earth”, and because He is without the bounds of time and space, He is not limited to living in a “temple or sacred building” that was constructed by man. God is “omnipresent”, and there is no place a person may go that He is not there. God is “omniscient”, and He knows everything. God is “omnipotent”, and He is more powerful than anything in the universe, and with all those traits, He desires to have a personal relationship with everyone through His Son Jesus. Anyone who believes and trusts in Jesus as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Almighty God. Those who are wise will understand that God wants to “dwell” within them, and allowing Him access to their hearts is the best decision they will ever make.
Next time Luke shares how God, “neither is worshiped with men's hands, as though he needed anything”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
