Luke the beloved physician shared how “Paul departed from among” the people in Athens after sharing the gospel with them on “Areopagus or Mars' Hill”, and “certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them”, and in chapter eighteen and verse one of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth” where we read:
After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;
The verse reads, “After these things Paul departed from Athens,” Luke began with the words, “after these things” which means “moreover following the time Paul spent with the philosophers in Athens” “Paul” whose name means “small or little” “departed from Athens” or “left and went forth apart from Athens whose name means uncertainty and was a famous city in Greece, the capital of Attica, and the chief seat of learning and civilization during the golden period of the history of Greece”. Luke shared how “Paul” left from “Athens” after sharing the gospel with the “philosophers” on “Mars' Hill”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and came to Corinth;” Luke continued with the words, “and came” or “and arose and appeared” “to Corinth” to the city whose name means “satiated” and was “an ancient and famous city of Greece, on the Isthmus of Corinth, and about 40 miles (65 km) west of Athens”. Luke shared how “Paul” traveled to the city of “Corinth” on his missionary journey.
When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” continued on his missionary journey as he left “Athens” and traveled to “Corinth”. Paul's calling was to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to the “Gentiles”, and when he left Antioch this second time, he was purposed to share God's good news of “salvation” to anyone in the world. God loves people, and He sent His Son Jesus to the “world” so that “whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life” (See John 3:16), and anyone who trusts in, relies upon, clings to and has confidence in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. Those who are wise will yield to Jesus and be a part of those to whom Paul attempted to reach throughout the world.
Next time Luke shares how Paul, “found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
