The lights are out, and the music is playing. Children are making their list, and grandmothers are baking sugar cookies with colored icing and sprinkles. There goes Santa Claus, and manger scenes are placed in front yards. Packages are being wrapped, and the hustle and bustle within the malls and stores are mostly met with a joyous smile. Oh, there's an occasional mishap or disappointment, but the activity is at a maximum, and all the Christmas shows on television help people to laugh again. It is indeed a time to have a “Holly, Jolly Christmas”.
For just a few days, maybe even a month, people everywhere begin to think about the joy of living, the joy of giving, and the joy of singing. For instance, does it really matter that most people don't know all the words to all the Christmas songs, like Dr. Suess' “Welcome Christmas -
Fah Who foraze, Dah Who doraze
Welcome, Christmas, come this way
Fah Who foraze, Dah Who doraze
Welcome, Christmas, Christmas Day
Welcome, Christmas, come this way
Fah Who foraze, Dah Who doraze
Welcome, Christmas, Christmas Day
Or as one little girl sings it, “Dah who Doris, Dah who Doris”. It really doesn't matter. It simply adds to the seasonal fun. Jingle Bells, Silver Bells, Ring those bells, all add to the sounding out of “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” “Away in a Manger”, “Silent Night”, and “Deck the Halls” have a places to sound out during this Fa la la la la season. It's available. It's here, and those who take advantage will be the better for it.
Let's face it. Life has been much more difficult for many these days, and for a while, maybe a short while, the focus should be turned back to enjoying life, celebration, music and laughter. Although there are many things to distract and keep one down, take another look, make a list, check it twice, and find out how not to be naughty. Be nice, and watch the joy of the season enter back into the soul and become like a child again.
Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
