The famous song from “Sound of Music” goes,
“Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things”
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things”
and at this time of year, many think about their favorite things, but perhaps with all the hustle and bustle of the season one or two haven't taken the time to sit down and think about things that are most enjoyable to them.
Often the favorite things are related to tangibles rather than intangibles. Take a look at the second verse of the song.
“Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things”
These are touchable things, but still there is no mention of relationships such as wives, husbands, children or grandparents. Maybe the third verse will help.
“Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things”
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things”
No, there are still only tangibles mentioned, and all of these are indeed fleeting and temporary. Maybe the chorus will give revelation:
“When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad”
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad”
Still nothing intangible other than feeling sad, remembering and feeling bad. So hmmm, I wonder, maybe there should be another verse added, and perhaps the reader would add a few items that are lasting, intangible, valuable, and need to be taken advantage of before they disappear. Here is a couple to start:
Granddaughter’s laughter and Grandmother's kisses
Until tomorrow...Why Say More?
