He likes that team, and she likes that. They voted for him, and those people voted for her. This brand is preferred by that group, and the other brand is favored by the other group. Isn't it a marvel that so many people with so many different likes and dislikes can live together in unity? Just what is it that prevails over the accepted and the unaccepted that continues to hold a group of such diversity together? How in the world do those who so vehemently oppose one another on one front so tightly bond on another? How does it remain that these people can be called the “United” States of America?
There must be something deeper, something far beyond the differences, and a bond that supersedes all personal preferences. When collegiate rivalries stand side by side, political party adversaries join ranks together, and members of different religions connect to protect some ideal together, there must be a prevailing thought. Though in direct conflict with one another in day to day arenas, these who are particularly partial become impartial when the cause is great enough.
That unity, that togetherness, and that brotherhood goes well beyond the rhetoric, and the innermost bond is stronger than the most heated of differing views. Perhaps rather than always emphasizing the major differences between groups and rivals, every once in a while there could be a mention of the driving force that keeps people in the United States together: Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.
Again, thank you to those who protect and preserve those unifying words.
