I Will Never Forget Any of Their Works Amos 8:7

Amos the “herdsman fig picking” prophet referred to people within Israel who took advantage of the “poor and needy”. They would “buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes” along with selling them “the refuse of the wheat”. In chapter eight and verse seven of his prophesy, Amos shares how the LORD “will never forget any of their works” where we read:

The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

The verse begins, “The LORD has sworn by the excellency of Jacob,...” Amos began with the words, “The LORD” which refers to “Yehovah or Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the one true God” “has sworn” or “adjured, taken an oath or charged” “by the excellency” which means “the exaltation, majesty and pride” “of Jacob” whose name means “heel holder or supplanter” and was “the son of Isaac, grandson of Abraham, and father of the twelve patriarchs of the tribes of Israel”. Amos declared the LORD's promised by an oath concerning Jacob's “exaltation and pride”.

The verse goes on to say, “Surely I will never forget any of their works.” Amos continued with the word, “Surely I will never” or “God would not most assuredly, always, forever, in perpetuity, enduring and everlastingly” “forget” which means “ignore, cease to care or make to be forgotten” “any of their works” which refers to “the oppressor's deeds, things done, works, labors and acts”. God would not “forget” any of these wicked acts done by those who oppressed the “poor and needy”.

When we consider these words of Amos, we see how the LORD was observing the acts of these oppressors even though they thought no one saw them taking advantage of others. Their ways so moved the LORD that he “swore” by the “majesty and pride” of “Jacob” that He would “never forget” a single one of them. Jesus Christ knows everything we do, and there is nothing hidden from His eyes. Lest we be like these oppressors, let us turn our ways to Jesus and repent before he swears that He will “never forget any of” our “works”.

Next time Amos asks the question, “Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwells therein”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
