The apostle John wrote how Jesus said, “I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him”, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-two of his book John shared how, “Jesus answered them, … for which of those works do you stone me?” where we read:
Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father;
for which of those works do you stone me?
The verse reads, “Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father;” John began with the words, “Jesus answered them” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responded, began to speak and questioned the Jewish people who were to stone Him”, “many good works” or “a great number of beautiful, excellent, genuine, precious, praiseworthy and noble acts and deeds” “have I showed you” which means “that Jesus exposed, gave evidence and proof to the Jewish people” “from my Father” or “out of and through my, Jesus', Heavenly Father God”. John shared how Jesus responded to the Jewish people who were to “stone” Him by beginning to ask them about the great number of “good works” He performed before them through the power of His Father God.
The verse goes on to say, “for which of those works do you stone me?” John continued with the words, “for which of those works” which means on account of what acts or deeds” “do you stone me” or “are you, Jewish people, attempting to overwhelm and pelt me, Jesus, with rocks or stones”. John shared how Jesus asked the Jewish people what acts or deeds he performed that caused them to want to “stone” Him.
When we meditate upon John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus questioned the Jewish people who were attempting to “stone” Him what acts or deeds He performed motivated them to do so. Jesus came to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and He performed many mighty miracles while He was on the earth. It is interesting that His wonderful “works” among men caused many of them to want Him to die, and there are many people who want the idea of Him “dead” to this day. God loves everyone, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with all of them through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will carefully examine Jesus' words and works and yield their life to the only One who paid the ultimate price of death on the cross for their sins so they may live eternally with Him.
Next time John shares how the Jews answered, “for a good work we stone you not; but for blasphemy", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
