Attempted Stoning Again - John 10:31

The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long do you make us to doubt? If you be the Christ, tell us plainly. Jesus answered them, I told you, and you believed not: the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. But you believe not, because you are not of my sheep, as I said unto you. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand. I and my Father are one, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-one of his book John shared how, “the Jews took up stones again to stone him” where we read:

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

The verse reads,Then the Jews took up stones again ... John began with the words, “then the Jews” which means “at that time the people of the Jewish nation by origin, religion or birth” “took up stones again” or “upheld, bore and carried little rocks another time” and did the following with them. John shared how the Jewish people responded to Jesus' answer by picking up “little rocks” once “again”.

The verse continues, “... to stone him. John added the words, “to stone” which means “to overwhelm and pelt with rocks as a mode of punishment in order to wound or kill” “him” which refers to “Jesus”. John shared how the Jewish people “took up stones” to pelt Jesus with them.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how the “Jewish people” responded to Jesus by picking up “stones to stone” Him after He said He would provide “eternal life” to His “sheep or followers” and that He and His “Father God” were one. God loves people, and when they submit to His Son Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord”, He will provide, protect and forgive them as well as grant them everlasting life. Those who are wise never desire to “stone” Jesus, but rather submit to Him as His disciples.

Next time John shares how, “Jesus answered them, … for which of those works do you stone me?", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
