Not Believing What They are Told - John 10:25

The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch. Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long do you make us to doubt? If you be the Christ, tell us plainly”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-five of his book John shared how Jesus answered, “I told you, and you believed not" where we read:

Jesus answered them, I told you, and you believed not:

the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me.

The verse reads, “Jesus answered them, I told you, and you believed not:” John began with the words, “Jesus answered them” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responded to and began to speak to the Jewish people who questioned Him”, “I told you” or “I, Jesus, informed, brought word and spoke to you, Jewish people”, “and you believed not” which means “and you, Jewish people, did not trust in, rely upon, cling to or have confidence in what Jesus declared”. John shared how Jesus responded to the Jewish people who were questioning Him by telling them that He already answered their question, but they did not “believe” Him.

The verse continues, “the works that I do in my Father's name, they bear witness of me. John added the words, “the works” which means “the acts and deeds” “that I do” or “that I, Jesus, perform, produce and make ready” “in my Father's name” which means “by God, Jesus' Heavenly Father's, name which is used for everything which the name covers including the thoughts or feelings which are aroused in the mind by mentioning, hearing and remembering”, “they bear witness of me” or “the works that Jesus did testify and give a good report pertaining to me, Jesus”. John shared how Jesus declared the “acts and deeds” He performed by His “Father God's name” bore “testimony” of who He was.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus previously told the Jewish people that He was the “Christ”, but they did not believe Him, and if they would only observe and take notice of the “acts and deeds” He performed, they would bear witness to who He was. Jesus is the “Christ” and “Son of God”, and when a person carefully observes all the words and works He provided while He was on the earth, they should come to the conclusion that He was and is God's Messiah. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and those who are wise will not only study the “words and works” of Jesus, but will yield to Him when they discover He is God's “Messiah” and “Christ” who came to be the “Savior and Lord” of the world.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “you believe not, because you are not of my sheep", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
