How Long Do You Make Us to Doubt? - John 10:24

The apostle John wrote how, “Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon's porch”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-three of his book John shared how the Jews asked Him, “how long do you make us doubt? If you are the Christ, tell us plainly” where we read:

Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him,

How long do you make us to doubt? If you be the Christ, tell us plainly.

The verse reads, “Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, ...” John began with the words, “then came the Jews” which means “at that time arose, approached and came forth the people who were members of the Jewish nation by origin, religion or birth” “round about him” or “surrounding Jesus”, “and said unto him” which means “and uttered, declared, proclaimed and asked Jesus” the following question. John shared how the Jewish people began to surround Jesus in the “temple” and “asked” Him the following question.

The verse goes on to say, “... How long do you make us to doubt? If you be the Christ, tell us plainly. John continued with the words, “How long do you” which means “what length of time must pass for you, Jesus to” “make us to doubt” or “move or cause we Jewish people to be in suspense, apprehension and dread”? “If you be the Christ” which means “whether you, Jesus, exist as the Messiah and Son of God”, “tell us plainly” or “speak to us, Jewish people, openly, frankly and without concealment”. John shared how the Jewish people asked Jesus what length of time He was going to keep them in suspense, and they wanted Him to “openly and frankly” tell them whether or not He was the Messiah of God.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn how impatient these “Jewish” people were with Jesus. They wanted Him to tell them “openly and freely” whether or not He was “God's Messiah”. We can imagine how difficult this was for Jesus because He was the Son of God, the Messiah and the Christ, and not only did He inform them of this in the past, His works demonstrated who He was. God sent His Son Jesus into the world so they could have a personal relationship with Him in Heaven. People who believe and trust in Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and be granted everlasting life with God. May all who read these words know and be assured – Jesus is God's Son and His “Christ” sent into the world to save people from their sins.

Next time John shares how Jesus says, “I told you, and you believed not", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
