You are Gods? - John 10:34

John the Apostle wrote how Jesus said, I and my Father are one. Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him. Jesus answered them, Many good works have I showed you from my Father; for which of those works do you stone me? The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone you not; but for blasphemy; and because that you, being a man, make yourself God, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-four of his book John shared how Jesus asked, “Is it not written in your law, I said, you are gods?” where we read:

Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, You are gods?

The verse reads,Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, ... John began with the words, “Jesus answered them” which means “the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate whose name means Jehovah is Salvation responded and began to question the Jewish people”, “Is it not written” or “is the following not delineated or formed in letters on a tablet, parchment, paper or other material” “in your law” which means “within your, the Jewish people's, rules producing a state approved of God” the following words. John shared how Jesus responded to the Jewish people by referring to their own “law” which proclaims the following words.

The verse goes on to say, ... I said, You are gods? John continued with the words, “I said” which means “I, God the Heavenly Father, uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “you are gods” or “you, people of the Jewish nation, exist as magistrates and judges” (See Psalm 82:6-7)? John shared how Jesus referred to the scripture in Psalms which proclaimed the Jewish people to be “little g”, “gods”, which means “magistrates and judges”.

When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn how Jesus referred to the Jewish people's own “law” to challenge their reasoning about Him. Jesus showed how God Himself proclaimed the Jewish people to be “gods” (little g) which meant they were to make “judgments and decisions” concerning events in their own lives. God loves people, and His “law” was provided to bring blessings and warnings of safety upon those who follow it. Because people could not keep the law of God and thereby “sinned”, He sent His Son Jesus to keep the “law” perfectly and to pay the price for people violating the “law” by dying upon the cross. Anyone who surrenders their life to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and inherit everlasting life with God, and those who are wise will carefully consider this greatest “decision” they shall ever make in their lives.

Next time John shares how Jesus began a question using the words, “if he called them gods", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
