The Keeping of the Two Days Esther 9:27 - Equipped for Battle

The keeping of the annual feasting was confirmed by the Jews, and the days of Purim were established. Purim would be a reminder of the victories the Jews won over their enemies within the Persian empire, and having the celebration annually would help future generations to know the mighty preserving power of God. In chapter nine and verse twenty-seven we see how the idea of Purim was to spread to all generations. We read:

The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year;

The verse begins, “The Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them,...” The Jews ratified and confirmed the two days of Purim, and participation would be enjoyed by Jews everywhere. Their offspring would celebrate these days, and anyone who became as a Jew was included in the celebration. The establishment of this yearly festival was to be enjoyed by everyone who aligned themselves with the Jews.

The verse goes on to say, “so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing, and according to their appointed time every year; ” Once again there is confirmation that these days “should not fail” or never fail to have these days of Purim every year. They put these festivities in writing so they would not forget or put aside such an important event. God Almighty had preserved them, and there needed to be acknowledgment and gratefulness enjoyed yearly because of it.

Times set aside to remember the preserving power of God are important not only the Jews but to us also. Because we constantly face adversity and trials in our lives, it is good for us to be reminded of the power of God in the past. When we recall God's intervention in our life situations we continue to hope that he will intercede on our behalf in present and future ones. As we ponder once again the Jews motive to have both present and future generations know of the power of God, perhaps we too will desire to leave a legacy that causes our prodigy to know the power of our mighty God. May the Lord lead us in our celebration times, and may our children and our children's children know the intervention of our mighty God.

Next time we will see how this celebration was to be remembered from generation to generation, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow...there is more...
