Enemies Turn Back When I Cry unto God - Psalms 56:9

In Psalms chapter fifty six David said, “You tell my wanderings: put you my tears into your bottle: are they not in your book?”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse nine of Psalms David said, “when I cry unto you, then shall my enemies turn back”, where we read,

When I cry unto you, then shall my enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.

The verse begins, When I cry unto you, then shall my enemies turn back:” David began with the words, “When I cry unto you” or “at the time and moment I, David, utter a loud sound, call and invite you, Divine judge Jehovah God”, “then shall my enemies” which means “at that time will my, David's, hating foes and adversaries” “turn back” or “ go back, return or retreat”. David said when he appealed to Jehovah God his hating foes and adversaries would retreat.

The verse goes on to sayfor God is for me.” David continued with the words, “for God” or “because, since and on account that the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “is for me” which means “is the spokesman and authority over me, David”. David said the Divine judge Jehovah God was on his side.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David called upon Jehovah God to come to his aid, and as He did, God made his enemies retreat. God was “for” David, and He desires to be “for” everyone who will yield to His plan of salvation through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and be on our side against any foe or difficult situation that arises. Let us be among the wise who choose to trust in, rely upon and cling to Jesus as “Savior and Lord”.

You Tell My Wanderings - Psalms 56:8

In Psalms chapter fifty six David asked concerning his enemies, “Shall they escape by iniquity? in your anger cast down the people, O God”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse eight of Psalms David said, “you tell my wanderings”, where we read,

You tell my wanderings: put you my tears into your bottle: are they not in your book?

The verse begins, You tell my wanderings:” David began with the words, “You tell” or “you, Divine judge Jehovah God, account for, reckon and number” “my wanderings” which means “my, David's, aimless meandering and roaming”. David told Jehovah God that He accounted for his aimless roaming like a fugitive.

The verse continues, put you my tears into your bottle: are they not in your book?” David added the words, “put you my tears” or “place, set, fix and establish, Jehovah God, my, David's, weeping tears” “into your bottle” which means “within your, Jehovah God's, skin bag used for holding liquids”: “are they not in your book” or “do not the tears of David exist within Jehovah God's missive, document, written order, commission and legal document”? David referred to the way Jehovah God put his weeping “tears” within a receptacle used for holding liquids, and he asked whether Jehovah God accounted for them within a written order or document.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David knew Jehovah God was keeping an account of every time he became a meandering fugitive, and he asked the LORD to place his “tears” of sorrow within a receptacle that holds liquids. David wondered whether Jehovah kept a record of all the times he cried within a written order or document. God sees our “tears” of sorrow and weeping, and He keeps record of them all. He knows when we suffer afflictions and trials that make us cry, and He is well aware of any enemy or situation that causes them. Jesus also “wept”, (See John 11:35) and we know He was a “man of sorrow, acquainted with grief”. (See Isaiah 53:3) God loves us, and He sent His Son Jesus to the earth to suffer afflictions and die on the cross for our sins. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, not only are we forgiven for our sins and granted everlasting life, but we also align with One who knows what we are going through and who is able to account, reckon and keep tract of every “tear” we cry.

Shall They Escape by Iniquity? - Psalms 56:7

In Psalms chapter fifty six David said, “In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil. They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse seven of Psalms David asked, “Shall they escape by iniquity?”, where we read,

Shall they escape by iniquity? in your anger cast down the people, O God.

The verse begins, Shall they escape by iniquity?” David began with the words, “Shall they escape” or “will they, David's enemies, be delivered, get away with and be liberated” “by iniquity” which means “through the means of trouble, wickedness, sorrow and idolatry”? David questioned whether his hating adversaries would be delivered through wickedness and idolatry.

The verse goes on to say,in your anger cast down the people, O God.” David continued with the words, “in your anger” or “within your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, wrinkled nostrils, nose and face demonstrating wrath and ire” “cast down the people” which means “make descend, march and sink down the human beings both male and female who were David's enemies”, “O God” or “O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God”. David appealed to the Divine judge Jehovah God to sink his enemies to a lower place.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David wondered if his enemies thought they would get away with their pernicious deeds, and the answer is no! David appealed to God to bring them down, and He knew the omnipotent Jehovah God would easily be able to do so. God wants to have a personal, intimate relationship with every person, and He made this possible by sending His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Anyone who believes and trusts in Him will be forgiven of their sins, granted everlasting life and given His Holy Spirit to help them overcome all hating adversaries. Let us give praise, honor and glory to Jehovah God and His Son Jesus for their provision for us even when “wrath” is needed to overcome our foes.

Next time David asks, “you tell my wanderings”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Gathering Themselves Together - Psalms 56:6

In Psalms chapter fifty six David said, “In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me. Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse six of Psalms David said, “they gather themselves together”, where we read,

They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.

The verse begins, They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, ...” David began with the words, “They gather themselves together” or “they, David's enemies, abide, dwell, remain and stay with one another”, “they hide themselves” which means “they, David's enemies, conceal, keep secret, lurk, hoard and reserve their own selves”. David said his enemies dwell with one another in secret and clandestine places.

The verse continues, “... they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.” David added the words, “they mark my steps” or “they, David's enemies, keep, guard, observe and take heed to my, David's, hinder part, rear, footprint and heels”, “when they wait” which means “at the time and moment they, David's enemies', hope, expect and look eagerly” “for my soul” or “on behalf of my, David's, inner man, mind, will, desire and seat of appetites, emotions and passions”. David said his enemies observed every footprint he made, and they hoped and eagerly looked for David's heart and mind.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David recognized that his enemies secretly assembled and watched every step he took so they could observe his heart and mind. David's enemies wanted him dead, and the same was true for Jesus. Jesus endured his enemies even unto the cross so He could save people from the penalty for sin. When we put our faith and trust in Him, He forgives our sins and grants us everlasting life with Him. David knew what it was like to have continual onslaught from his enemies, and Jesus knew this as well. Jesus is certainly able to care for us when we face opposition, and we may trust that He will take care of us in the midst of them.

Next time David asks, “Shall they escape by iniquity?”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Wresting My Words - Psalms 56:5

In Psalms chapter fifty six David said, “In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse five of Psalms David said, “Every day they wrest my words”, where we read,

Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.

The verse begins, Every day they wrest my words:” David began with the words, “Every day” or “throughout each and the whole of the sunrises to sunsets” “they wrest my words” which means “David's enemies hurt, pain, grieve, vex and torture my, David's, speeches, utterances, answers and messages”. David said throughout “every day” his enemies grieved and vexed his speeches and answers.

The verse goes on to say,all their thoughts are against me for evil.” David continued with the words, “all their thoughts” or “each, every, the whole and everyone of their, David's enemies', devices, plans, purposes and inventions” “are against me” which means “exist as above, beyond and in opposition to me, David” “for evil” or “for bad, disagreeableness, malignancy and unpleasantness”. David said every one of his enemies' plans, purposes and devises were in opposition to him for malignant and bad reasons.

When we think through the words in this verse, we see how David's enemies were constantly devising and making wicked plans and purposes in opposition to him. “Every day” David had to contend with new plans and purposes set against him, and He knew his only relief would be in his relationship with Jehovah God. God loves people, and He knew what we would endure on the earth. Jesus said, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me you might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (See John 16:33), and when we submit ourselves to Jesus as our personal “Savior and Lord”, we will be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and have Him to call upon even when our enemies assault us “every day”.

Next time David says, “they gather themselves together”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

In God I Will Praise His Word - Psalms 56:4

In Psalms chapter fifty six David said, “Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresses me. My enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O you most High. What time I am afraid, I will trust in you”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse four of Psalms David said, “In God I will praise his word”, where we read,

In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.

The verse begins, In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust;” David began with the words, “In God” or “in the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “I will praise his word” which means “I, David, shall shine, be boastful, commend and give light toward Jehovah God's speech, utterance, declaration and proclamation”, “in God” or “within the Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “I have put my trust” which means “I, David, have place, set, fixed and established my, David's, faith, confidence and security”. David declared that he would give honor and commendation to Jehovah God's utterances and proclamations, and in Him would he be confident and have security.

The verse continues,I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.” David added the words, “I will not fear” or “I, David, shall not be afraid, astonished or terrified at” “what flesh” which means “that which frail and erring man or people” “can do unto me” or “are able to fashion, accomplish and produce toward me, David”. David said he would not be afraid of what people could do to him.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how David gave honor, glory and thanksgiving to the words of Jehovah God because he put his faith in Him. This caused him not to be afraid of what people would do to him. Jesus said, “fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (See Matthew 10:28), and He came into the world to die on the cross for the sins of everyone. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins and grant us everlasting life. Jesus wants to be our intimate and personal God, and when we trust in Him, we have no need to be afraid of what people do to us.

When I am Afraid - Psalms 56:3

In Psalms chapter fifty six David said, “Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresses me. My enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O you most High”, and in chapter fifty-six and verse three of Psalms David said, “What time I am afraid, I will trust in you”, where we read,

What time I am afraid, I will trust in you.

The verse begins, What time I am afraid, ...” David began with the words, “What time” or “in the chronicle, period and moment” “I am afraid” which means “I, David, am in fear, awe and terror”. David referred to the time and moment that he was in fear and terror.

The verse goes on to say,I will trust in you.” David continued with the words, “I will trust” or “I, David, shall have faith, confidence and security” “in you” which means “within you, Jehovah God”. David said he would place his confidence and faith in Jehovah God.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how David placed his confidence within Jehovah God at the time he was in fear. There is no greater source of power and might than God, and when we put our faith in Him, we may be assured that He is able to protect and defend us against any foe. God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified for the sins of all mankind, and anyone who believes and trusts in Him as their “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life. We may be “afraid” at times, and when we are, let us “trust” in Almighty God who is more powerful than any adversary or circumstance we encounter.

Next time David says, “In God I will praise his word”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
