Bloom Where You're Planted

Forlorn I looked and cast my gaze

what there didst my eyes see

a lone set flower 'pon it's stem

there looking back at me

It's ground was firm within a rock

where straying seed was set

while other ground from all around

seemed much more fit and yet

That sole lone bloom upon it's stem

did not wish else to grow

but rather pushed its roots beneath

the stone fixed deep below

Twas then I thought upon my mum

her words still planted sound

that I should bloom within my state

verse looking all around

And should I travel state to state

to country far and wide

forget not fields that lies within

those seeded by divine

And dare I be but transplant still

by hand or wind or seed

forget not that which bears the best

the roots you've found in me

Give forth your all where e'er you be

and deep your roots thus bear

within the ground where you've been placed

and bloom your flowers there

Why Have You Thus Dealt with Us? - Luke 2:48

Luke the physician wrote how Joseph and Mary, “went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers”, and in chapter two and verse forty-eight of his book Luke shared how Mary asked Jesus, “Son, why have you thus dealt with us?” where we read:

And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him,

Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought you sorrowing.

The verse reads, “And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, ...” Luke began with the words, “and when” or “at at the time and moment” “they saw him” which means “Joseph and Mary observed, discover, noticed and discerned where Jesus was”, “they were amazed” or “Joseph and Mary marveled and were in awe”: “and his mother” which refers to “and Jesus' direct female progenitor and ancestor” “said unto him” or “uttered, declared, proclaimed toward and asked Jesus” the following words. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary “marveled” when they found Jesus sitting among the “teachers” of the law in the temple, and His mother, Mary, asked Him the following question.

The verse continues, “... Son, why have you thus dealt with us? behold, your father and I have sought you sorrowing.” Luke added the word, “Son” which refers to “Jesus who was Joseph and Mary's male child”, “why have you thus dealt with us” or “for what reason and cause did Jesus execute and do what He did to them”? “Behold” which means “lo, look and consider”, “your father and I have sought for you” or “your father, Joseph, and mother, Mary, have searched, looked for and strove to find Jesus” “sorrowing” which means “in intense pain, anguish, distress and torment”. Luke shared how Mary asked Jesus “why” He treated them in the manner He did because they had been “looking for” him with great “distress and anguish” in their hearts.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we learn when and where Joseph and Mary found Jesus. They “marveled” when they discovered Jesus among the “teachers” within the “temple”, and Mary could not help but ask Jesus “why” He did this to them. Mary revealed she and Joseph's “anguish and torment” as they looked for Him, and we can imagine their relief when they found where He was. Jesus was exactly where His Heavenly Father, God, wanted Him to be, and although people may have “anguish and torment” as they search for a relationship with God, He is as close as belief and trust in His Son Jesus who came to the world to save them from sin that separated them from Him. Those who are wise will “look for” Jesus, and when they discover He is within the scriptures, they should yield their lives to the only One who can “save” and bring to them “everlasting life”.

Jesus with Understanding and Answers - Luke 2:47

Luke the physician wrote how Joseph and Mary, “went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions”, and in chapter two and verse forty-seven of his book Luke shared how, “all that heard him were astonished at his understanding” where we read:

And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

The verse reads, “And all that heard him were astonished ...” Luke began with the words, “and all that heard him” or “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the teachers of the law of God who were given the faculty for hearing, perceiving, understanding and knowing what Jesus said” “were astonished” which means “were astounded, amazed and marveled”. Luke shared how those who “heard” Jesus within the temple were “amazed” by Him.

The verse goes on to say, “... at his understanding and answers.” Luke continued with the words, “at his understanding” which means “at Jesus' intelligence, perception and knowledge” “and answers” or “and replies and responses”. Luke shared how those who listened to Jesus were “amazed” because of His “knowledge” and “responses” to their teachings.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we see how people were impressed by Jesus within the temple. Though they must have thought they were there to teach Him, Jesus was actually instructing them. This Jesus, is the Son of God, the Creator of the Universe who had “all knowledge” according to the “truth”, and it was His Father God who was responsible for all the content of which these teachers were studying. No wonder He had such “knowledge” and “responses” to amaze. God's desire is for people to realize who He is, the omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent God, who has given the plan of “salvation” to mankind through His Son Jesus, and all who believe and trust in Him as their personal “Savior and Lord” shall be forgiven of their sins and inherit “everlasting life”.

Finding Jesus in the Temple - Luke 2:46

Luke the physician wrote how Joseph and Mary, “went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance. And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him”, and in chapter two and verse forty-six of his book Luke wrote, “after three days they found him in the temple”” where we read:

And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple,

sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

The verse reads, “And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, ...” Luke began with the words, “and it came to pass” or “and it happened, appeared in history and came upon the stage”, “that after three days” which means “when three days had passed” “they found him” or “Joseph and Mary detected and discovered Jesus” “in the temple” which means “within the sacred worship place in Jerusalem”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary “found” Jesus in the “temple” of worship located in Jerusalem.

The verse continues, “... sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.” Luke added the words, “sitting in the midst of” which means “seated and set down in the middle of and amongst” “the doctors” or “the teachers of the things of God and the duties of man”, “both hearing them” which means “also and indeed being given the faculty for hearing the doctors as well as perceiving what they were saying”, “and asking them questions” or “and inquiring, requesting and putting questions to the doctors”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary discovered Jesus “seated” among the “teachers” of the law of God, and He was “hearing” what they had to say as well as “asking” them “questions” concerning their teachings.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn what Jesus was doing for “three days” while his parents were anxiously searching for Him. Jesus was in the “temple”, and because He was “hearing” and “asking questions” of the “doctors” or “teachers” of the law of God, He was exactly where He needed to be. Jesus will respond to His father and mothers' concern over Him, but suffice it for now to understand that Jesus was found “in the temple”, and those who desire to have a personal relationship with God will often discover Him there. In other words, go to church. Seek for a Bible teaching church that exalts Jesus as “Savior and Lord” and follow Jesus' example to both “hear” and “ask questions” to discover God's desire to “save” and give everlasting life to all who believe and trust in His Son Jesus.

Joseph and Mary Return to Jerusalem - Luke 2:45

Luke the physician wrote how Joseph and Mary, “went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance”, and in chapter two and verse forty-five of his book Luke shared when Jesus' parents, “found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem” where we read:

And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

The verse reads, “And when they found him not, ...” Luke began with the words, “and when” or “and at the time and moment” “they found him not” which means “Joseph and Mary did not come upon, learn, discover or obtain the knowledge of where Jesus was”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary decided to do the following after their attempts to “find” Jesus were unsuccessful.

The verse goes on to say, “... they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.” Luke continued with the words, “they turned back again” which means “Joseph and Mary returned” “to Jerusalem” or “to the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace”, “seeking him” which means “looking for Jesus with desire”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary returned to Jerusalem with a passionate desire to “search” for Jesus.

When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover how Joseph and Mary responded to the absence of Jesus. They lost “the Son of God”, and after searching through their family and friends, they decided to go back to Jerusalem to “look for” Him. Anyone who has “lost” a child knows the inward fear and concern over them, and as Joseph and Mary were a “days journey” away, we can imagine their anxious thoughts along their way of travel. God knew this part of His plan for the salvation of mankind, and although Joseph and Mary were “seeking” Jesus, God knew what Jesus was doing. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when times arrive that they do not know where Jesus is in their lives, they may be certain, God knows where Jesus is and His plan is being worked out for them.

Next time Luke shares, “after three days they found him in the temple”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Jesus' Parents Looking for Him - Luke 2:44

Luke the physician wrote how Joseph and Mary, “went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it, and in chapter two and verse forty-four of his book Luke shared how Jesus' parents, “sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance” where we read:

But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey;

and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

The verse reads, “But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey;” Luke began with the words, “But they” or “however, nonetheless, nevertheless, moreover and Joseph and Mary”, “supposing him” which means “deemed and thought Jesus” “to have been in the company” which means “was in the group of travelers, associates and traveling companions”, “went a day's journey” or “traveled a natural day's length”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary thought Jesus was with the remainder of their group and traveled for a “day” toward their home.

The verse continues, “and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.” Luke added the words, “and they sought him” which means “and Joseph and Mary looked for and searched for Jesus” “among their kinsfolk” or “within their group of relatives and fellow countrymen” “and acquaintance” which means “and notable or well-known friends”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary “searched” for Jesus among their relatives and companions who were traveling with them.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we can imagine Joseph and Mary's concern when they thought Jesus was traveling with them but actually was not. As they began to look for Jesus among their relatives and friends, they must have been in near “panic” mode as their son was missing. God knew where Jesus was, and though He allowed Joseph and Mary to be in wonder, He was not. God's plan was unfolding for the salvation of mankind, and even though people, even close people to Jesus, did not know where Jesus was, God's plan was for Him to engage the leaders in the temple so He could begin His venture toward paying the price for sin on the cross. Those who are wise will consider every detail of Jesus' journey and realize, God had a plan, and He was working it out.

Next time Luke shares when Jesus' parents, “found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Jesus Tarrying Behind in Jerusalem - Luke 2:43

Luke the physician wrote how Joseph and Mary, “went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast”, and in chapter two and verse forty-three of his book Luke shared how Jesus', “tarried behind in Jerusalem” where we read:

And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem;

and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

The verse reads, “And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem;” Luke began with the words, “and when” or “at the time and moment” “they had fulfilled the days” which means “Joseph, Mary and Jesus completed the days allotted for the passover feast”, “as they returned” which means “during the time Joseph and Mary went back toward their home in Nazareth”, “the child Jesus” which refers to “Joseph and Mary's male son named Jesus which means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate,” “tarried behind in Jerusalem” which means “endured, remained and continued to stay in the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace”. Luke shared how Joseph and Mary departed toward their home in Nazareth after the “days” of the “passover” custom were completed, however, Jesus stayed behind in the city of “Jerusalem”.

The verse goes on to say, “and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.” Luke continued with the words, “and Joseph” which means “let him add” and was “the earthly father of Jesus” “and his mother” or “and Mary who was the direct female progenitor and ancestor of Jesus” “knew not of it” which means “did not get knowledge of, perceive or become acquainted with Jesus staying behind”. Luke shared how Jesus' parents did not know that He stayed behind in “Jerusalem”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we discover an interesting development in this part of the story of Jesus. Jesus, rather than going back home with His parents, stayed behind in Jerusalem. Because people usually traveled in a group to events like this one, it would have been easy to assume Jesus was with others instead of directly with Joseph and Mary. God had a plan for this part of Jesus' life, and as we consider why He stayed in Jerusalem, let us be reminded that God desires for every person to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus. Those who are wise will consider every story concerning Jesus and submit to Him as their personal “Savior and Lord”.
