Lift Not Up Your Horn - Psalms 75:5

In Psalms chapter seventy-five Asaph wrote how Jehovah God said, “I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn”, and in chapter seventy-five and verse five of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, lift not up your horn on highwhere we read,

Lift not up your horn on high: speak not with a stiff neck.

The verse begins, Lift not up your horn on high:” Asaph began with the words, “lift not up” or “do not exalt, raise or extol” “your horn on high” which means “your, the foolish and wicked people's, flask, cornet or peak which are symbols of power”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God repeated His idea about the wicked and foolish people not exalting their power.

The verse goes on to say, speak not with a stiff neck.” Asaph continued with the words, “speak not” or “do not utter, declare or make proclamations” “with a stiff neck” which means “by the use of a forward, bold, arrogant and impudent back of the neck”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God instructed the foolish and wicked people not to make proclamations by the use of bold and arrogant ways.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God continued to instruct the foolish and wicked people as He repeated the idea of them not exalting their power nor making proclamations according to their arrogant ways. When people believe they are the makers and producers of their own strength, power and might, they often credit themselves with their accomplishments and gains. God alone gives power, ability and gain to people because He actually owns everything. He allows people to receive His gifts, and His desire is for them to credit Him with their gains. He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the errors and mistakes of all mankind, and when we receive Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and attend to everyone who boasts in themselves with arrogant words and activities.

Deal Not Foolishly - Psalms 75:4

In Psalms chapter seventy-five Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah”, and in chapter seventy-five and verse four of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, Deal not foolishlywhere we read,

I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly: and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:

The verse begins, I said unto the fools, Deal not foolishly:” Asaph began with the words, “I said unto the fools” or “I, Jehovah God, uttered, declared and proclaimed to the proud boasters and people who act madly”, “deal not foolishly” which means “do not be boastful or act madly”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God told the people who were boastful and acting like mad men to stop being that way.

The verse continues, and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn:” Asaph added the words, “and to the wicked” or “and to the criminal, guilty of crime and sin and those who are hostile to God”, “lift not up the horn” which means “do not exalt, raise or extol the flask, cornet or peak which are symbols of power”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God instructed people who are evil and hostile to Him not to exalt their power in His presence.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see through Asaph how Jehovah God directs His words to people who boast and act like mad men. He wanted them to stop their ways. He also addressed people who are criminal and evil, and He directed them not to exalt their power. God knows people often boast of themselves and their accomplishments even though they could do nothing without Him. (See John 15:5) God loves people, and His desire is to have a personal relationship with them through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we surrender to Jesus, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and attend to boasters, madmen, evil people and those who exalt their power.

The Earth and It's Inhabitants Dissolved - Psalms 75:3

In Psalms chapter seventy-five Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, “When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly”, and in chapter seventy-five and verse three of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God continued with the words, The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolvedwhere we read,

The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.

The verse begins, The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved:” Asaph began with the words, “the earth” or “the country, region, land and world” “and all the inhabitants thereof” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone of the people who dwell within the earth” “are dissolved” or “exist as melted, dissipated and consumed”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God declared that the world and everyone within it would be consumed.

The verse goes on to say,I bear up the pillars of it. Selah.” Asaph continued with the words, “I bear up” or “I, Jehovah God, regulate, ponder, balance, make even and level” “the pillars of it” which means “the columns, platform or stand of the earth”. “Selah” or “lift up, exalt and pause to meditate upon it”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God said He was responsible for the platform and stand of the earth.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph spoke of Jehovah God's declaration that He was responsible for the foundation of the earth. God created the earth and everything within it, (See Genesis 1:1-3), and He made mankind in His image. His desire was to have fellowship and communion with people, but when they sinned, that relationship was broken. God continued to want a relationship with people, so He sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and teach us to meditate upon His power and might that sets and keeps the columns and pillars of the world.

When I Receive the Congregation - Psalms 75:2

In Psalms chapter seventy-five Asaph said, “Unto you, O God, do we give thanks, unto you do we give thanks: for that your name is near your wondrous works declare”, and in chapter seventy-five and verse two of Psalms Asaph shared how Jehovah God said, When I shall receive the congregationwhere we read,

When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly.

The verse begins, When I shall receive the congregation ...” Asaph began with the words, “When I shall receive” or “at the time and moment I, Jehovah God, will fetch, lay hold of, seize and acquire” “the congregation” which means “the appointed meeting and gathering”. Asaph referred to the proclamation of Jehovah God concerning the gathering of people in an assembly.

The verse continues, “... I will judge uprightly.” Asaph added the words, “I will judge” or “I, Jehovah God, shall govern, vindicate, rule and discriminate” “uprightly” which means “in evenness, straightness, equity and smoothness”. Asaph shared how Jehovah God stated that He would govern and rule in a straight and equitable way when He acquires the assembly of people.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn through Asaph how Jehovah God is a just God, and His judgment are true, equitable and right. There will be a day when all people are gathered before Him, and everyone will give an account of what they have done in their bodies. (See Revelation 20:12). God knows every person has missed his mark, sinned, and the wages of sin is death. (See Romans 3:10,23; 6:23). He sent His Son Jesus into the world so people could be rescued from the penalty of eternal separation from Him, and when we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bring correct judgment upon everyone who dwells on the earth.

We Give Thanks to You God - Psalms 75:1

Psalms chapter seventy-five begins with the heading, [[To the chief Musician, Altaschith, A Psalm or Song of Asaph.]]” which breaks down, “to the chief Musician” or “to the preeminent, overseeing superintendent or chief choir director”, “Alaschith” whose name means “do not destroy and was a command to the chief musician or perhaps the title of a melody used for several Psalms”, “A Psalm” or “a melody or poem set to notes” “of Asaph” which means “belonging to Asaph whose name means gatherer and was a son of Berechiah and a chief Levite musician under David”, and in chapter seventy-five and verse one of Psalms Asaph said, Unto you, O God, do we give thankswhere we read,

Unto you, O God, do we give thanks, unto you do we give thanks:

for that your name is near your wondrous works declare.

The verse begins, Unto you, O God, do we give thanks, unto you do we give thanks:” Asaph began with the words, “Unto you, O God” or “toward you, O Divine judge, ruler and Supreme God” “do we give thanks” which means “do we, Asaph and his people, cast forth and confess laud and praise”, “unto you do we give thanks” or “toward you, Divine judge Jehovah God, do we, Asaph and his people, cast forth and confess laud and praise”. Asaph proclaimed to the Divine judge Jehovah God that he and his people confess laud and praise to Him, and he emphasized His words by repeating them.

The verse goes on to say,for that your name is near your wondrous works declare.” Asaph continued with the words, “for that your name is near” or “because, since and on account that your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, reputation, fame and glory exists as allied, at hand, more ready and come close as” “your wondrous works declare” which means “your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, marvelous, surpassing, extraordinary and distinguishing actions and deeds relate, recount, are accounted of and reckoned”. Asaph said Jehovah God's reputation, fame and glory were a close as the relating of His marvelous and surpassing actions and deeds.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Asaph and his people offered worship and praise to Jehovah God because His fame, reputation and glory were as close as His marvelous actions and deeds. God has revealed Himself through His Creation (See Psalm 19:1), and He desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus. He sent Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when we surrender our lives to Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the ability to worship His “name” and wonderful deeds which He has given to people.

Next time Asaph shares how Jehovah God says, When I shall receive the congregation I will judge uprightly, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Forget Not the Voice of Your Enemies - Psalms 74:23

In Psalms chapter seventy-four Asaph said, “Arise, O God, plead your own cause: remember how the foolish man reproaches you daily”, and in chapter seventy-four and verse twenty-three of Psalms Asaph said, forget not the voice of your enemieswhere we read,

Forget not the voice of your enemies:

the tumult of those that rise up against you increases continually.

The verse begins, Forget not the voice of your enemies:” Asaph began with the words, “Forget not the voice” or “do not ignore or cease to care about the sound, noise and proclamation of words” “of your enemies” which means “belonging to your, the Divine judge Jehovah God's, hating foes and adversaries”. Asaph appealed to Jehovah God not to ignore or cease to care about the proclamations of His hating foes.

The verse continues, the tumult of those that rise up against you increases continually.” Asaph added the words, “the tumult” or “the roar, din, crash or uproar” “of those that rise up against you” which means “belonging to the people who stand up, arise and become established and powerful” “increases continually” or “ascends, springs up and shoots forth perpetually, continuously and unto perpetuity”. Asaph referred to the roaring of the people who opposed Jehovah God and ascended perpetually and continuously.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Asaph did not want Jehovah God to ignore the clamor of His hating foes nor the uprising of the people who constantly ascended in opposition to Him. God is omniscient, and He is well aware of people who refuse to believe and trust in Him through His Son Jesus. All the while, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When we believe and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and assure us that He not only knows the voice of those who speak against Him but also is aware of when they constantly arise in opposition to Him.

Next time we begin and new chapter and see Asaph say, Unto you, O God, do we give thanks, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
