Tell Your Children Joel 1:3

Joel the prophet introduced himself as “the son of Pethuel” and called the “old men” and “inhabitants” of the land of Judah to call to their memories whether they had ever “been days” like they were experiencing. In chapter one and verse three of his prophesy, Joel instructed the people to “tell” their “children” and for “their children” to tell “their children” where we read:

Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children,
and their children another generation.

The verse begins, “Tell your children of it, and let your children tell their children,...” Joel began with the word, “Tell” which means “count, recount, number, declare and relate” “your children of it” which is the Hebrew word “ben” and refers to “son, grandson, child and member of a group”, “and let your children” which is the Hebrew word “ben” and means “son, grandson, child and member of a group” “tell their children” which also is the Hebrew word “ben” refers to “”son, grandson, child and member of a group. Joel's idea was to pass his prophesy from one generation to the next.

The verse continues, “...and their children another generation.” Joel continued with, “and their children” which again is the Hebrew word “ben” which means “son, grandson, child and member of a group” “another generation” which means “others, following, further and different periods, habitations and dwelling-places”. The prophesy of Joel was to continue ad nauseam.

When we consider these words of Joel, we see the progression of the forwarding of the information the people were to give to their prodigy. The Hebrew is “ben, ben, ben, ben” and the ideas was to continue informing every child, their children and their children's children. We are entrusted with the gospel of Jesus Christ, and as Joel the prophet desired for the people of Judah to pass along his message to the next generations, we must pass our to the present and future generations as well. May the Lord Jesus through His Holy Spirit remind us to continue sharing His message both now and in the ages to come.

Next time Joel shares concerning “palmerworms, locusts, cankerworms and caterpillars”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
