Boldness and Access with Confidence Ephesians 3:12

Paul the apostle told the Ephesian church members it was God's intent that “the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God”, and because of this He revealed “the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord”. In chapter three and verse twelve of his letter to the Ephesians, Paul shared how this caused he and the Ephesians to have “boldness and access with confidence by” “Jesus' faith” where we read:

In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

The verse begins, “In whom we have boldness and access...” Paul began with the words, “In whom” which refers to “Jesus Christ” “we have boldness” which means “freedom in speaking, unreservedness in speech, open, frank and without concealment, ambiguity, circumlocution, use of figures and comparisons; fearless confidence and cheerful courage” “and access” or “the act of bringing to, moving to and approach”. Because of Jesus' sacrifice, Christians have fearless confidence and “access” to a relationship with God.

The verse continues, “...with confidence by the faith of him.” Paul added, “with confidence” which means “trust and reliance” “by the faith” or “conviction of the truth of anything, belief, and conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ” “of him” which refers to Jesus Christ. The reason we have this “boldness and access” is because of Jesus' faith which is confident and indisputable.

When we think through these words of Paul, we should be rejoicing over what Jesus has done for us. Because he died for our sins upon the cross and rose from the dead, Jesus Christ has given provision for us to be “bold” in our approach to God. May all glory, praise and honor be unto Jesus for His marvelous provision of our “access” to God.

Next time Paul shares how “the whole family in heaven and earth is named”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
