Three Days Without Sight - Acts 9:9

The physician Luke wrote how, “Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, and desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven. And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? And he said, Who are you, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom you persecute: it is hard for you to kick against the pricks. And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what will you have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told you what you must do. And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus”, and in chapter nine and verse nine of the book of Acts Luke shared how Saul, “was three days without sight” where we read:

And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.

The verse begins,And he was three days without sight, Luke began with the words, “and he was three days” which means “and Saul was three sunrises to sunsets” “without sight” or “not being able to see”. Luke shared how “Saul” was blind for “three days”.

The verse continues, and neither did eat nor drink.Luke added the words, “and neither did eat” which means “and Saul did not consume or devour food” “nor drink” or “no and not at all imbibe anything to drink”. Luke shared how “Saul” was without “food and drink” for “three days” after he entered into Damascus.

When we meditate upon Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Saul” was unable to see and fasted when he arrived in “Damascus”. “Saul” did not receive his next instruction from the Lord right away, and without sight he remained without food and drink while he waited. God has a purpose and plan for every person who relates to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they submit to Him, He may delay, but His plan and purpose for their lives will be revealed while they cannot “see” and through “fasting and prayer”. (See Matthew 17:21; Mark 9:29)

Next time Luke shares about, “a certain disciple at Damascus”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
