The LORD's Name Declared in Zion - Psalms 102:21

In Psalms one hundred and two the Psalmist said, “This shall be written for the generation to come: and the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. For he has looked down from the height of his sanctuary; from heaven did the LORD behold the earth. To hear the groaning of the prisoner; to loose those that are appointed to death”, and in chapter one hundred two and verse twenty-one of Psalms the Psalmist said, “to declare the name of the LORD in Zion” where we read,

To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, and his praise in Jerusalem;

The verse begins, To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, ... The Psalmist began with the words, “to declare” or “to recount, reckon, number and rehearse” “the name” which means “the reputation, fame and glory” “of the LORD” or “belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “in Zion” which means “within Zion whose name means parched place and was another name for Jerusalem especially in the prophetic books”. The Psalmist said the reason his words would be written was also so Jehovah God's fame, reputation and glory would be reckoned and rehearsed in “Zion”.

The verse continues,... and his praise in Jerusalem; The Psalmist added the words, “and his praise” or “and his, Jehovah God's, adoration and song or hymn of thanksgiving and laudation” “in Jerusalem” which means “within Jerusalem whose name means teaching of peace and is the chief city of Palestine and capital of the united kingdom and the nation of Judah after the split”. The Psalmist said adoration and songs of thanksgiving would be given to Jehovah God in the city of “Jerusalem”.

When we consider the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist said Jehovah God's “name” would be reckoned and rehearsed within “Zion” as well as adoration and thanksgiving given to Him in songs after He freed the “prisoners” and “saved” the people who were “appointed to death”. Praise and worship of God in words and songs are a natural response for people who have received His salvation through His Son Jesus. When we realize God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sins and was raised from the grave three days later for our promise of eternal life with Him, we will believe and trust in Him and give Him praise and thanks forever and ever. God loves us, and His plan of freeing us from the prison of sins and salvation from our appointment with eternal death makes us sing, give praise and adoration to the God who rescues and saves.

Next time the Psalmist refers to the time, “when the people are gathered together”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
