In Psalms one hundred sixteen the Psalmist said, “Return unto your rest, O my soul; for the LORD has dealt bountifully with you”, and in chapter one hundred sixteen and verse eight of Psalms the Psalmist said, “you have delivered my soul from death” where we read,
For you have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
The verse begins with the words, “For you have delivered my soul from death, ...” The Psalmist began with the words, “for you have delivered” or “because, since and on account that you, Jehovah God, have rescued, liberated and saved” “my soul” which means “my, the Psalmist's, heart, mind, will, desires, living being and seat of emotions and passions” “from death” or “separate and apart from dying, pestilence and ruin”. The Psalmist said the reason his “soul” would be at rest was because Jehovah God rescued and saved him from ruin and dying.
The verse continues, “... my eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.” The Psalmist added the words, “my eyes from tears” or “my, the Psalmist's, physical eyes separate and apart from weeping”, “and my feet” which means “and my, the Psalmist's, physical feet” “from falling” or “separate and apart from stumbling”. The Psalmist said Jehovah God also “saved” his physical “eyes” from weeping and his “feet” from stumbling.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we see how the Psalmist knew Jehovah God rescued and saved him, and He kept the Psalmist's “eyes” from weeping and his “feet” from stumbling. In other words, the Psalmist knew Jehovah God cared for him. God loves people, and He wants to live with them forever. Sin separates people from a personal relationship with God, so God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. Because Jesus paid the price of death for our sins, when we believe and trust in Him as our “Lord and Savior”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life, “deliver our souls”, wipe the “tears” from our “eyes” and keep our “feet from” stumbling.
Next time the Psalmist says, “I will walk before the LORD”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
