Can a Devil Open the Eyes of the Blind? - John 10:21

The apostle John wrote concerning Jesus, “There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings, and many of them said, He has a devil, and is mad; why hear you him?”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-one of his book John shared how, “others said, these are not the words of him that has a devil” where we read:

Others said, These are not the words of him that has a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?

The verse reads, “Others said, These are not the words of him that has a devil.” John began with the words, “Others said” which means “other people who were listening to Jesus uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “these are not the words” or “these tones and sounds do not exist as uttered speeches” “of him that has a devil” which means “by one who is possessed or under the power of an evil spirit or demon”. John shared how “other” people who were listening to Jesus did not believe the “words” of Jesus indicated that He was “demon possessed”.

The verse continues, “Can a devil open the eyes of the blind? John added the words, “can a devil” which means “does a demon possessed person have the capacity and ability to” “open the eyes” or “unloosen or unfasten the physical eyes” “of the blind” which means “belonging to a person without vision and sight”? John shared how some of the people who were listening to Jesus could not understand how “demon possessed” person would be capable of “opening” the “eyes” of a person without “sight”.

When we think through John's words in this verse, we learn why there was a division between the Jewish people who heard Jesus speak. Some of them thought He was “demon possessed” and “crazy”, and others wondered how a “demon” or “servant of the devil” could make a “blind” man see. Jesus is the “Savior and Lord” of the world, and every spoken word and miracle given by Him pointed to the fact that He was God's Son and Messiah. Regardless of the “opinions” and “judgments” concerning Jesus, He was and is the only person who “died on the cross” for the sins of the world, and every person who yields their life to Him will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life from His Father God.

Next time John shares how the following things happened, “at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
