The apostle John wrote how, “There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings, and many of them said, He has a devil, and is mad; why hear you him? Others said, These are not the words of him that has a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?”, and in chapter ten and verse twenty-two of his book John shared, “it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication” where we read:
And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.
The verse reads, “And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, ...” John began with the words, “and it was at Jerusalem” which means “and the location or place was in the city of Jerusalem which means set you double peace and was the capital of Palestine” “the feast of the dedication” or “the annual feast or festival of consecration which was celebrated for eight days beginning in the twenty-fifth day of Chislev known as Hanukkah (in the middle of our December) which was instituted by Judas Maccabaeus in memory of the cleansing of the temple from the pollution of Antiochus Ephiphanes”. John shared the time when the following events occurred was during the “feast of consecration” known as Hanukkah in the city of “Jerusalem”.
The verse goes on to say, “... and it was winter.” John continued with the words, “and it” which means “and the timing for the events forthcoming” “was winter” or “was in the stormy or rainy weather season known as the winter season”. John shared how it was “wintertime” when the following things occurred.
When we consider John's words in this verse, we learn about about the time and place the following events came into being. God's plan of “salvation” through His Son Jesus was progressing, and “Jerusalem” would be the place of many events leading toward it. God desires to have a personal relationship with every person through His Son Jesus, and when they yield their life to Him, they will be forgiven of their sins and receive everlasting life. “Jerusalem”, Hanukkah and wintertime all demonstrate the progression of God's plan, and those who are wise will submit to Him and align with His plan for mankind.
Next time John shares how, “Jesus walked in the temple", so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
