Lydda and Saron Turning to the Lord - Acts 9:35

Luke the physician wrote, “as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ makes you whole: arise, and make your bed. And he arose immediately”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty-five of the book of Acts Luke shared how, “all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him” where we read:

And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord.

The verse begins,And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, ... Luke began with the words, “and all that dwelt” which means “and each, every, the whole and everyone who lived, resided and made their homes” “at Lydda” or “in Lydda which means strife and was a town nine miles (15 km) from Joppa, and is the first town on the northernmost of the two roads between that place and Jerusalem” “and Saron” which means “plain or level and was a region extending from Caesarea of Palestine as far as Joppa, abounding in good pasture and famous for its fertility” “saw him” or “observed, beheld and noticed Aeneas”. Luke shared how “all” the people from not only “Lydda” but also “Saron” observed the healing of “Aeneas”.

The verse goes on to say, ... and turned to the Lord.Luke continued with the words, “and turned” which means “and came and reverted” “to the Lord” or “to the One to whom a person or thing belongs about which he has power of deciding; master, and the title given to God the Messiah”. Luke shared how all the people from “Lydda” and “Saron” came to the “Lord Jesus” after they saw the healing of “Aeneas”.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn about the “eternal” effect of the healing of “Aeneas” by “Peter”. The people from “Lydda” and a nearby town called “Saron” turned their hearts toward the Lord Jesus and became believers in Him. God used this miracle performed upon “Aeneas” to reach the people in his town, and as a bonus, people from the nearby village were reached as well. God loves to have a personal relationship with everyone who comes to Him through His Son Jesus, and when they yield to Him, He will forgive their sins and grant them everlasting life. The “eternal miracle” was the salvation of these people who observed the healing of “Aeneas”, and God will save everyone who surrenders their life to His Son Jesus.

Next time Luke shares about, “a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
