No Respecter of Persons - Acts 10:34

Luke the physician wrote how two servants and a soldier of Cornelius went to Joppa to find Peter. After arriving at Simon's house where Peter was staying, they met Peter and convinced him to go see their master Cornelius. After entering Cornelius house, Peter found many people gathered there, and Cornelius said,Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing, and said, Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God. Send therefore to Joppa, and call here Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he comes, shall speak unto you. Immediately therefore I sent to you; and you have well done that you are come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded you of God, and in chapter ten and verse thirty-four of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter, “opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons” where we read:

Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

The verse begins,Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, ...” Luke began with the words, “then Peter” which means “at that time Peter whose name means a little rock or stone and was one of Jesus' disciples” “opened his mouth” or “opened up the orifice in his face used for eating and speaking”, “and said” which means “and uttered, declared and proclaimed” the following words. Luke shared how “Peter” began to respond to the words of “Cornelius” by saying the following words.

The verse goes on to say, “... Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:” Luke continued with the words, “of a truth” which means “in reality and fact” “I perceive that God” or “I, Peter, understand, learn and comprehend that the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit” “is no respecter of persons” which means “does not discriminate nor act as an accepter of people both male and female”. Luke shared how “Peter” acknowledged and stated that he understood that “God” did not “discriminate” against any person.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Peter” came to understand that “God” does not “discriminate” against anyone. His “gospel of salvation” is available to everyone, and anyone who yields their life to His Son Jesus will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with Him. Everyone reading these words should take the position of “Peter” and understand that “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him, should not perish, but have everlasting life”. (See John 3:16)

Next time Luke shares how Peter continues, “but in every nation he that fears him … is accepted with him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
