The physician Luke wrote how Peter, “was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him. And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison. And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands”, and in chapter twelve and verse eight of the book of Acts Luke shared how “the angel said unto him, Gird yourself, and bind on your sandals” where we read:
And the angel said unto him, Gird yourself, and bind on your sandals. And so he did.
And he said unto him, Cast your garment about you, and follow me.
The verse begins, “And the angel said unto him, Gird yourself, and bind on your sandals. And so he did.” Luke began with the words, “and the angel said unto him” which means “and the messenger or envoy uttered, declared and proclaimed to Peter”, “Gird yourself” or “fasten garments with a girdle or belt about your own self” , “and bind on your sandals” which means “and put or strap on your shoes”. “And so he did” or “and therefore Peter obeyed the messenger”. Luke shared how the “spiritual messenger” instructed “Peter” to put on his clothes and shoes, and “Peter” obeyed him.
The verse goes on to say, “And he said unto him, Cast your garment about you, and follow me.” Luke continued with the words, “and he said unto him” which means “and the angel uttered, declared and proclaimed to Peter”, “cast your garment about you” or “throw around and put clothes on your own self”, “and follow me” which means “and join, attend to and accompany me, the angel”. Luke shared how the “angel” instructed “Peter” to put throw on his outer clothing and accompany him.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how the “angel” instructed “Peter” to put on his clothes, strap on his shoes, wrap his outer coat about him and accompany him to where he was going. God sent an “angel” to rescue “Peter”, and all “Peter” needed to do was obey him. God loves people, and when we thing about “Peter's” life with Jesus, we understand the “grace and mercy” of God that was extended toward him. God loves everybody, and His desire is to save them from their sins and grant them everlasting life through a relationship with His Son Jesus. Everyone who considers this deliverance of “Peter” is invited to receive Jesus into their lives and watch Him rescue them from the “prison” of sin that captures all.
Next time Luke shares how Peter, “went out, and followed him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
