The physician Luke wrote, “as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy”, and in chapter nine and verse thirty-four of the book of Acts Luke shared how Peter said, “Aeneas, Jesus Christ makes you whole, arise, and make your bed” where we read:
And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ makes you whole:
arise, and make your bed. And he arose immediately.
The verse begins, “And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ makes you whole:” Luke began with the words, “and Peter said unto him” which means “and Peter whose name means a little rock or stone uttered, declared and proclaimed to Aeneas”, “Aeneas” whose name means “laudable”, “Jesus Christ” which means “Jesus whose name means Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate who is the anointed One and the Messiah” “makes you whole” or “heals and cures you, Aeneas. Luke shared how “Peter” told “Aeneas” that “Jesus Christ” cures him.
The verse continues, “arise, and make your bed. And he arose immediately.” Luke added the words, “arise, and make your bed” which means “rise, get up, and spread and strew your mattress or pallet”. “And he arose immediately” or “and Aeneas rose straightway and forthwith”. Luke shared how “Peter” instructed “Aeneas” to get up, roll up his mattress, and “Aeneas” did so “straightaway”.
When we think through Luke's words in this verse, we discover the miracle and healing “Peter” performed upon “Aeneas”. The reaction time to “Peter's” command to get up and make his bed was immediate by “Aeneas” as God had restored him to health. God is in the miracle working business, and He used “Peter” to give the command to “Aeneas” to be healed. The response was immediate as “Aeneas” obeyed “Peter's” instruction, and his life and others were altered by his obedience. God is able to perform miraculous things in people's bodies, but even more so, He will eternally save every person who yields themselves to His Son Jesus. God's desire is to “save” everyone who surrenders to Him, and this is a miracle that will last from ages without end. Let all who read these words surrender to Jesus and obey His command to rise up and make your eternal bed.
Next time Luke shares how, “all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
