God Raised Up Jesus - Acts 13:23

Luke the beloved physician wrote, “after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, You men and brethren, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, say on. Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and you that fear God, give audience. The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it. And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness. And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot. And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet. And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years. And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will”, and in chapter thirteen and verse twenty-three of the book of Acts Luke shared how Paul said, “Of this man's seed has God … raised up … Jesus” where we read:

Of this man's seed has God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus:

The verse begins, “Of this man's seed ... Luke began with the words, “of this man's” which means “from King David's”, “seed” or “offspring and progeny”. Luke shared how “Paul” referred to King David's offspring as he made the following statement.

The verse continues, “... has God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Savior, Jesus: Luke added the words, “has God” which means “the Heavenly Father God aroused, produced and caused to appear” “according to his promise” or “toward God's announcement of divine assurance of good” “raised unto Israel” which means “aroused, caused to appear and stirred up toward Israel whose name means he shall be prince” “a Savior” or “a deliverer and preserver”, “Jesus” whose name means “Jehovah is Salvation and is the Son of God, the Savior of mankind and God incarnate”. Luke shared how “God” the Heavenly Father “raised up” His Son “Jesus” to be the “deliverer and preserver” of mankind.

When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how “Paul” told the people in the synagogue in Antioch of Pisidia that “Jesus” came by “God the Heavenly Father's” design through “King David”. “Paul” desired to share the “good news” of “salvation” through Jesus Christ that God gave to mankind, and as he recounted step by step the history of Israel, he was leading to the point of sharing “Jesus” with the people. God loves people, and He desires to have a personal relationship with all of them. He sent “Jesus” into the world to save them from their sins and grant them everlasting life with Him. Those who yield to God's Son “Jesus” will be forgiven of their sins and live eternally with God in Heaven. Anyone who believes and trusts in “Jesus” surrenders to God's plan of “salvation” for mankind.

Next time Luke shares how Paul refers to, “when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
