Asking for the Truth - Daniel 7:16

In the book of Daniel, Daniel said, “I Daniel was grieved in my spirit in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me”, and in chapter seven and verse sixteen of his book Daniel said, “I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth” where we read,

I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this.

So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.

The verse reads, “I came near unto one of them that stood by, and asked him the truth of all this.” Daniel began with the words, “I came near” or “I, Daniel, closely approached” “unto one of them” which means “toward one of the beings” “that stood by” or “who was appointed, established and came on the scene”, “and asked him the truth” which means “and questioned, requested and desired of him, the one who stood by, the sure, reliable and certainty” “of all this” or “pertaining to each, every, the whole and the entirety of what Daniel observed”. Daniel shared how he closely approached one of the beings that was established near him and asked him about the reliability and certainty of what he saw.

The verse continues, “So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.” Daniel added the words, “so he told me” or “therefore, wherefore and on this account he, the one who stood by, spoke, commanded and related these things to me, Daniel”, “and made me know” which means “and caused me, Daniel, to be taught, certified and informed about” “the interpretation of the things” or “the rendering and meaning of the sightings shown to Daniel”. Daniel share how the “one who stood by” told him the rendering and meaning of the visions.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how he acted upon his upset “spirit” by approaching one who was established within his presence, and he questioned him as to what the meaning of all these visions. Daniel humbled himself and simply “asked” about that which he did not know. Humility is one of the first steps we need to enjoy a personal relationship with God through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of the world and was raised from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us understanding according to His perfect plan and will through His Holy Spirit that will dwell within us.

Next time Daniel shares how “the one who stood by” says, “these great beasts, which are four, are four kings”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
