One Like the Son of Man - Daniel 7:13

In the book of Daniel, Daniel said “I beheld even till the beast was slain, and his body destroyed, and given to the burning flame. As concerning the rest of the beasts, they had their dominion taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and time”, and in chapter seven and verse thirteen of his book Daniel shared how he saw, “one like the Son of man” where we read,

I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven,

and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

The verse reads, “I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven,  …” Daniel began with the words, “I saw in the night visions” or “I, Daniel, noticed, perceived, discerned and observed within the nighttime sightings and appearances”, “and behold” which means “and lo, look and consider”, “one like the Son of man” or “a person similar and in likeness to the progeny belonging to the human beings” “came with the clouds of heaven” which means “arrived alongside and accompanying the clouds within the visible sky and abode of God”. Daniel shared how he observed within the nighttime sightings a person similar to the “Son of man” who arrived within the “clouds” in the sky.

The verse goes on to say, “… and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.” Daniel continued with words, “and came to the Ancient of days” or “and carried forth and approached the venerable and aged One pertaining to times”, “and they brought him near” which means “and they carried him, the one like the Son of man, close” “before him” or “in front and in the presence of him, the Ancient of days”. Daniel shared how the “clouds of the heaven” carried forth the “Son of man” and lead him close to the presence of the “Ancient One”.

When we think through Daniel’s words in this verse, we discover how he observed a person similar to the “Son of man” who arrived with the “clouds” in the sky, and he approached the “Ancient One” and was escorted within His presence. We shall see what this means in our future verses, but for now let us consider that Jesus ascended within the clouds when He left the world after being crucified on the cross and resurrected after three days. (See Acts 1:9; Revelation 14:14) He was seen standing by the right hand of God by Steven in the book of Acts (See Acts 7:56), and when we put our faith and trust in Him as our personal “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the wisdom and understanding by His Holy Spirit to know and discern that the sightings of Daniel were all pointing to God’s salvation and redemption plan for mankind.

Next time Daniel shares how, “there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
