After the Death of Moses - Joshua 1:1

In the book of Joshua, the writer or Joshua wrote the following words in chapter one and verse one of his book concerning, “after the death of Moses” where we read,

Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, that the LORD spoke unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying …

The verse reads, “Now after the death of Moses the servant of the LORD it came to pass, …” Joshua began with the words, “Now after the death of Moses” which means “at the time behind and following the dying pertaining to Moses whose name means drawing out and was the prophet and lawgiver as well as the leader of the exodus” “the servant of the LORD” or “the slave, man of servile condition and minister belonging to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God” “it came to pass” which means “the following happened and occurred”. The writer or Joshua referred to the time following when “Moses Jehovah God’s” man of servile condition died, and the following happened.

The verse continues, “… that the LORD spoke unto Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying …” The writer or Joshua added the words, “that the LORD” or “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name of the One True God”, “spoke unto Joshua” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Joshua whose name means Jehovah is salvation” “the son of Nun” or “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Nun whose name means fish or posterity”, “Moses’ minister” which means “Moses’, whose name means drawing out and was the prophet and lawgiver as well as the leader of the exodus, servant or man of servile condition”, “saying” or “uttering, declaring and proclaiming” the words in our next verse. The writer or Joshua shared how Jehovah God made a declaration to Joshua who was the offspring of “Nun” was was a “servant” to Moses.

When we consider the words in this verse, we begin to learn through the writer or Joshua about what happened following the time when “Moses” died. Joshua was to take over command of the people of Israel, and after being the “servant” or “minister” to Moses for the forty years the people of Israel traveled through the desert wilderness. Joshua would now be at the helm. God spoke to and called Joshua into his next position, and when there are times of succession in high places and offices, God speaking to the new leader is always best. God loves people, and He cares for them through His appointed authorities. He decides their time in office, and as easily as He sets them up, He can take them down. (See Daniel 2:21) God wants us to be in a personal relationship with Him through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when He was raised from the grave after three days, He made the way through faith and trust in Him to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and equipped with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and help us manage whatever position and place He gives us even when one who precedes us is no longer alive.

Next time the LORD tells Joshua, “Moses my servant is dead”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
