Remove Sorrow From Your Heart - Ecclesiastes 11:10

In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon said, “Rejoice, O young man, in your youth; and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth, and walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes: but know you, that for all these things God will bring you into judgment”, and in chapter eleven and verse ten of his book Solomon said, “remove sorrow from your heart” where we read,

Therefore remove sorrow from your heart,

And put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.

The verse reads, “Therefore remove sorrow from your heart, …” Solomon began with the words, “therefore remove sorrow” or “wherefore, then and on this account turn aside, avoid and depose vexation, grief and frustration” “from your heart” which means “separate and apart from your, the young man’s, soul, mind and will”. Solomon concluded that the “young man” should separate his soul and mind from vexation and grief.

The verse goes on to say, “… and put away evil from your flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity.” Solomon continued with the words, “and put away evil” or “and pass by, overtake and leave bad, disagreeableness, malignancy and wickedness” “from your flesh” which means “separate and apart from your, the young man’s, body”: “for childhood and youth ” or “because, since and on account that juvenescence, dawning and boy and girlhood” “are vanity” which means “exist as vapor, breath and transitory dissatisfaction”. Solomon instructed the “young man” to leave bad and wickedness from his body because juvenescence and being young in age exists as transitory dissatisfaction.

When we think through the words in this verse, we learn how Solomon continued to instruct the “young man” by telling him to rid himself of his grief and vexation and to separate himself from wickedness in his body. Solomon concluded that being as a child and young person results in vapor and transitory dissatisfaction. God wants us to keep from “sorrow” and “sin” within our souls, and whether those wrongs are committed in our minds or bodies, we should receive God’s Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was raised from the dead after three days. When we surrender to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and guide us into all truth by His Holy Spirit to “remove sorrow, put away evil and be separated from “childish” traits.

Next time we begin a new chapter and see Solomon say, “remember now your Creator in the days of your youth”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
