In the book of Judges we learned how the LORD told Gideon, “Arise, get you down unto the host; for I have delivered it into your hand”, and in chapter seven and verse ten of Judges, we learn how Jehovah God tells Gideon what to do, “if you fear to go down” where we read,
But if you fear to go down,
go you with Phurah your servant down to the host:
The verse reads, “But if you fear to go down, …” The writer began with the words, “but if you fear” which means “however, nevertheless, notwithstanding and moreover whether and in case you, Gideon, are afraid and filled with terror” “to go down” or “to proceed and descend to the Midianite camp” do the following. The writer shared how Jehovah God told “Gideon” in case he was afraid and in terror to descend to the encampment of the army of the Midianites, he was to do the following.
The verse continues, “… go you with Phurah your servant down to the host:” The writer added the words, “go you with Phurah” which means “proceed and go forth beside and alongside Phurah whose name means ‘bough’ and was probably a reference to Gideon’s armor bearer” “your servant” or “your, Gideon’s slave, bondman and man of servile condition” “down to the host” which means “in the downward direction toward the Midianite army encampment”. The writer shared how Jehovah God told “Gideon” to have his bondman armor bearer, Phurah, to descend to the “Midianite” army encampment alongside him.
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God gave consideration to the possibility of “Gideon” being afraid as he approached the Midianite army camp, and if so, Gideon should take his servant armor bearer “Phurah” with him. God cares for His people, and He cares for us. When we yield our lives to His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and was resurrected from the dead after three days, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and give us assurance that He is with us wherever He leads in this life. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 1:20)
Next time we learn how Jehovah God said, “you shall hear what they say”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
