Gideon Hears and Worships - Judges 7:15

In the book of Judges we learned how Jehovah God told Gideon, “Arise, get you down unto the host; for I have delivered it into your hand. … , And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along. And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand haw God delivered Midian, and all the host”, and in chapter seven and verse fifteen of Judges, we learn, “when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshiped” where we read,

And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshiped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

The verse reads, “And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshiped, …” The writer began with the words, “and it was so” which means “and the following happened and occurred”, “when Gideon heard” or “at the time and moment Gideon whose name means ‘hewer’ and was the youngest son of Joash of the Abiezrites, fifth judge of Israel who led the Israelites against the Midianites, listened to, perceived and understood” “the telling of the dream” which means “the utterance, declaration and proclamation pertaining to the vision or series of thoughts, images and sensations”, “and the interpretation thereof” or “and the breaking down or explanation pertaining to the dream”, “that he worshiped” which means “that he, Gideon, bowed down, prostrated and humbly stooped himself to make obeisance and do reverence”. The writer shared how “Gideon” humbly prostrated himself in reverence to Jehovah God at the time he listened to the “dream” and the meaning of it.

The verse  goes on to say,  “and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD has delivered into your hand the host of Midian.” The writer continued with the words, “and returned into the host of Israel” which means “and went back in the army belonging to Israel whose name means ‘God prevails’ and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “Arise: for the LORD has delivered into your hand” which means “stand up: because, since and on account that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God has granted, bestowed and assigned in your, the army of Israel’s, power, might and authority” “the host of Midian” or “the army belonging to Midian whose name means ‘strife’”. The writer shared how “Gideon” went back to the encampment where the three hundred men were located and told them to get up because Jehovah God had given the Midianite army into their power and might.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we discover how “Gideon” was convinced that Jehovah God was going to grant them victory over the “Midianite” army. God knew “Gideon” needed to be assured that He was with him, and when “Gideon” listened to the “dream” and meaning given to the “Midianite” warriors, he could pass the message on to the three hundred men who accompanied him. God knows we are weak and in need, (See Philippians 4:19) and because He desires a personal relationship with us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for our sins and was raised from the dead after three days, He will assure us of our forgiveness of sins, eternal life and the promise of His Holy Spirit when we yield to Him. God is for us and not against us, and when we make Him our “Savior and Lord”, He will grant and assure us of His salvation and victory over every foe to our souls. (See John 3:16; Psalm 44:5)

Next time we learn how Gideon, “divided the three hundred men into three companies”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
