In the book of Judges we learned how the LORD told Gideon, “the people are yet too many; … and the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into your hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place. So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets:And he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: And the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley”, and in chapter seven and verse nine of Judges, we learn how Jehovah God told Gideon, “arise, get you down unto the host” where we read,
And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get you down unto the host; for I have delivered it into your hand.
The verse reads, “And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Arise, get you down unto the host;” The writer began with the words, “and it came to pass” which means “and it happened and occurred” “that same night” or “that selfsame nighttime”, “that the LORD” which means “that Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God” “said unto him” or “uttered, declared and proclaimed to him, Gideon”, “Arise, get you down to the host” which means “get up and go in the direction of the encampment of the Midianite army”. The writer shared how Jehovah God told “Gideon” to get up and descend to where the “Midianite” army had set up their camp of war.
The verse goes on to say, “for I have delivered it into your hand.” The writer added the words, “for I have delivered it” which means “because, since and on account that I, Jehovah God, have put, set, granted and assigned it, the Midianite army” “into your hand” or “in your, Gideon’s, power, might and authority” The writer shared how Jehovah God said He granted and bestowed the “Midiianite army” to be under the power and might of “Gideon”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how Jehovah God directed “Gideon” to take action by going down to the army encampment of the “Midianites” at “nighttime”. God’s plan for the deliverance of “Israel” was at hand, and when “Gideon” followed Jehovah God’s plan, they would see Him work on their behalf. God went before the people of Israel in this battle, and He does the same for us through His Son Jesus who died on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we put our faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us the ability to follow His lead where He desires to work in His Kingdom. (See John 3:16; 16:13; Acts 1:8; 5:29)
Next time we learn how Jehovah God tells Gideon what to do, “if you fear to go down”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
