In the book of Judges we learned how Jehovah God told Gideon, “Arise, get you down unto the host; for I have delivered it into your hand. … , And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along”, and in chapter seven and verse fourteen of Judges, we learn how, “his fellow answered and said, this is nothing else save the sword of Gideon” where we read,
And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand has God delivered Midian, and all the host.
The verse reads, “And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel:” The writer began with the words, “And his fellow answered” which means “and his, the man from the Midianite army’s, fellow-citizen, companion or associate responded”, “and said” or “and uttered, declared and proclaimed”, “This is nothing else” which means “this, the dream, exists as not one thing” “save the sword of Gideon” or “other than and except the sharpened weapon of war belonging to Gideon whose name means ‘hewer’ ” “the son of Joash” which means “the male offspring and progeny belonging to Joash whose name means ‘given by the LORD”, “a man of Israel” or “a male human being belonging to Israel whose name means ‘God prevails’ and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob”. The writer shared how the companion of the man from the Midianite army told him the dream was not one thing other than the sharpened weapon of war belonging to “Gideon” who was “Joash’s” male offspring and an Israelite.
The verse continues, “for into his hand has God delivered Midian, and all the host.” The writer added the words, “for into his hand” which means “because, since and on account that in his, Gideon’s, power, might and authority”, “has God delivered Midian” or “has the Supreme Deity granted, bestowed and assigned Midian whose name means ‘strife’ and was the son of Abraham by Keturah and progenitor of the tribe of Midianites or Arabians”, “and all the host” which means “and each, the whole and every one of the army warriors”. The writer shared how Jehovah God granted and bestowed “Midian” and every one of the men of their army into the power and might of “Gideon”.
When we consider the words in this verse, we learn how one of the companion to the warrior in the army of the “Midianites” who had a dream told him that this dream had no other interpretation than that “Gideon” was to come against them, and Jehovah God had delivered them over to “Gideon’s” power and might. Isn’t it interesting that the enemies and hating foes of “Gideon, Israel and Jehovah God” had visions concerning their defeat? That’s because God is in control, and He was to deliver His people Israel from the oppression of the enemy. God also wants to deliver us from the enemy of our souls which is sin, and because death is the wage of sin, (See Romans 6:23) God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we yield to Him as our “Savior and Lord”, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and put His Holy Spirit within us to guide us into all truth and to assure us that He will be victorious in our lives regardless of who or what comes against us. (See Isaiah 54:15; Romans 8:37)
Next time we learn, “when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshiped”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
