The Lord Will Come Down Micah 1:3

After introducing himself, the time period in which he was writing and to whom his prophesy was directed, Micah the prophet beckoned the entire world to hearken to his words. In chapter one and verse three Micah gave the reason everyone should hear him. We read:

For, behold, the LORD comes forth out of his place, and will come down,
and tread upon the high places of the earth.

The verse begins, “For, behold, the LORD comes forth out of his place, and will come down...” Micah employed the word “For” ,which in this case means “because or on account of”, and he gave the reason the inhabitants of the earth should listen to his words - “behold” which means “look upon, stare intently at or pay attention to” “the LORD comes forth” or “to go out, come out, exit or proceeds” “out of his place” which refers to “a standing place, station, post, office, region or quarters”. In addition, Micah said, “and will come down” which means “to descend, decline, march down, or sink down”. The idea is the LORD will move from His exalted position to come and be among the inhabitants of the earth.

The verse goes on to say, “..., and tread upon the high places of the earth.” Micah shared the LORD's action when He comes down, “and tread” or “bend, lead and march” “upon the high places” which refers to the “ridges, heights, bamahs, or mountains” “of the earth”. Generally these “high places” were places of worship of false gods, and the LORD was purposed to “march” upon these sacred plots. There was no one who would be able to stop the LORD once He rose from His exalted throne.

While we think upon these words of Micah, we may be inclined to think that we cannot relate to these “high places”. However, there may be “places of worship” for earthly things within our lives. These things may take precedence over the things of God, and our time, energy and monies are devoted to them. As we ponder the LORD's actions, are there any “high places” in our lives which the LORD might “come down” and “tread upon”? If the Holy Spirit brings anything to our minds, let us allow the LORD Jesus to remove those “places of worship” so that we only give our worship to Him.

Next time Micah tells the people the effect of the Lord coming down to them, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
