Born Again by the Word of God 1 Peter 1:23

Peter the apostle told the “scattered” Christians they were to “love one another with a pure heart fervently” because they had “purified their souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren”. As he continued to share with these believers in chapter one and verse twenty-three of his letter, he affirmed they were “born again” “by the” “incorruptible” “word of God” where we read:

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,
by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.

The verse begins, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible,...” Peter began with the phrase, “Being born again” which is the Greek word “anagennaō” which literally means “to produce again or be born anew” and metaphorically means “to have one's mind changed so that he lives a new life as one conformed to the will of God”, “not of corruptible” or “perishing or decaying” “seed” which refers to “a sowing”, “but of incorruptible” which means “uncorrupted, not liable to corruption or decay and imperishable”. The imperishable seed of Jesus Christ provided the ability to be “born again and anew” for everyone who places their trust and faith in Him.

The verse goes on to say, “...by the word of God, which lives and abides for ever.” Peter continued with the phrase, “by the word” or “speech or utterance which embodies a conception or idea” “of God” which refers to “the Godhead bodily and trinity which is comprised of God the Father, Christ the Son and the Holy Spirit”, “which lives” or “breathes, is active, blessed and endless in the kingdom of God” “and abides” which means “remains, sojourns, tarries, is present, held, kept continually and not departed” “for ever” or “unto, towards and among an unbroken age, perpetuity of time and eternity”. God's word which remains and abides for all perpetuity of time and eternity is the means by which God Almighty gives this “born again” eternal life.

When we meditate upon Peter's words, we cannot help but be excited that God Almighty in His providential care of mankind, provided a means by which we can be “conformed” to His will. We can be “born again”, not of flesh like our initial birth on earth, but of the spirit, which will go on for ever and ever. May all who read these words take heed and understand, God Almighty loves us so much, He desires a “new life” which is in alignment with His will for us, and the volume of His book, the Bible, declares this mighty truth to us.

Next time Peter employs the temporary state of “grass” as an example, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
