Pity the Poor and Lend to the LORD - Proverbs 19:17

In the book of Proverbs Solomon said, “He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul; but he that despises his ways shall die”, and in chapter nineteen and verse seventeen of Proverbs Solomon said, “he that has pity upon the poor lends to the LORD” where we read,

He that has pity upon the poor lends unto the LORD;

and that which he has given will he pay him again.

The verse begins, He that has pity upon the poor lends unto the LORD;” Solomon began with the words, “he that has pity” or “the person whether male or female who is gracious, favorable and merciful” “upon the poor” which means “on people who are impoverished, in want, needy and weak” “lends unto the LORD” or “attends, joins and cleaves to Jehovah who is the existing One and the proper name for the One True God”. Solomon shared how the person who is merciful and gracious to people who are impoverished and destitute joins themselves to Jehovah God.

The verse continues, “and that which he has given will he pay him again.” Solomon added the words, “and that which he has given” or “and whatever the person whether male or female has recompensed, benefited and served as a reward” “will he pay him again” which means “shall he, Jehovah God, yet recompense, requite, reward and repay the person another time”. Solomon said Jehovah God would repay the person who has mercy and grace upon the impoverished person in accordance with their benevolence.

When we consider the words in this verse, we discover through Solomon how we align ourselves with Jehovah God as we extend mercy and grace to people who are impoverished and in need. God will repay us for what we give because He acknowledges our following of His ways. God loves us, and He pays attention to people who are in want and need. When we believe and trust in His Son Jesus who was crucified on the cross for the sins of every person, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and bless us with His grace and mercy when we extend the same to others who are destitute.

Next time Solomon says, “chasten your son while there is hope”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
