The physician Luke wrote how, “the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate, And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there”, and in chapter ten and verse nineteen of the book of Acts Luke shared how “the Spirit said” to Peter, “Behold, three men seek you” where we read:
While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek you.
The verse begins, “While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, ...” Luke began with the words, “while Peter thought on the vision” which means “during the time Peter, whose name means a little rock or stone and was one of Jesus' disciples, was pondering, thinking and wondering about the spectacle or divinely granted ecstasy”, “the Spirit” or “the third person of the triune God, the Holy Spirit who is coequal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son” “said unto him” which means “uttered, declared and proclaimed to Peter” the following words. Luke shared how “the Holy Spirit” of God spoke to “Peter” while he was thinking about the “vision” God gave to him.
The verse continues, “... Behold, three men seek you.” Luke added the words, “behold, three men” which means “lo, look, and consider that three male human beings” “seek you” or “and looking, searching and craving to find you, Peter”. Luke shared how the “Holy Spirit” told “Peter” that “three men” were looking for him.
When we consider Luke's words in this verse, we learn how God's “Holy Spirit” gave “Peter” his next piece of information concerning the “trance” presented to him. “The Holy Spirit” told him “three men” were looking for him, and this demonstrates once again how God knew what He was doing with “Peter” and these men all the while. God loves people, and He works in ways that are not always known by those with whom He is working. Anyone who yields to Jesus as their personal “Savior and Lord” will be forgiven of their sins and granted everlasting life with God. Those who are wise will discover the voice of the Lord calling to anyone who will open their hearts, minds, eyes and ears to receive Him.
Next time Luke shares how the Spirit says to Peter, “arise … and go with them”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
