A Vision in the Third Year of Cyrus - Daniel 10:1

In the book of Daniel, Daniel shared how Gabriel told him, “know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.  And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate”, and in chapter ten and verse one of his book Daniel shared what happened, “in the third year of Cyrus king of Persia” where we read,

In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.

The verse reads, “In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar;” Daniel began with the words, “in the third year” or “within the third annual set of days” “of Cyrus" which means “pertaining to Cyrus whose name means possess you the furnace” “king of Persia” or “royal ruler and leader belonging to Persia whose name means pure or splendid which encompassed the territory from India on the east to Egypt and Thrace on the west, and included, besides portions of Europe and Africa, the whole of western Asia between the Black Sea, the Caucasus, the Caspian and the Jaxartes on the north, the Arabian desert, the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean on the south” “a thing was revealed” which means “a speech, word, matter or business was uncovered, shown and exposed” “unto Daniel” or “to Daniel whose name means God is my judge”, “whose name was called Belteshazzar” which means “that was known by the name of Belteshazzar whose name means lord of the straitened’s treasure”. Daniel shared how he was known as “Belteshazzar” and a matter was shown to him within the third annual set of days of “Cyrus” who was the royal ruler in “Persia”

The verse continues, “and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision.” Daniel added the words, “and the thing was true” or “and the speech, word, matter or business existed as firm, faithful, reliable and sure”, “but the time appointed was long” which means “however, nonetheless, notwithstanding and moreover the period of time or season was great and lengthy”: “and he understood the thing” or “and he, Daniel, discerned, perceived and considered the speech, word, matter or business”, “and had understanding of the vision” which means “and had discernment, knowledge and wisdom pertaining to the mental imagery, appearance and sighting”. Daniel said the “vision” was faithful and sure, however the season for it was lengthy and he discerned both the matter and the mental imagery.

When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn how Daniel received another “vision” from God, and this one was within the third annual set of day belonging to “Cyrus” who ruled in “Persia”. Daniel was given discernment into this mental imagery and the matter which it concerned. Daniel’s ministry to Jehovah God continued over many years, and because He desires that we all be involved in His Kingdom, God sent His Son Jesus into the world to be crucified on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and equip us with His Holy Spirit so we may have discernment and insight into whatever He desires for us as we live a life with the goal of being pleasing in His eyes.

Next time Daniel shares how he was, “mourning for three full weeks”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
