In the book of Daniel, Daniel prayed to God and said, “O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him. Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws, which he set before us by his servants the prophets”, and in chapter nine and verse eleven of his book Daniel said,“all Israel have transgressed your law” where we read,
Yes, all Israel have transgressed your law, even by departing, that they might not obey your voice; therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.
The verse reads, “Yes, all Israel have transgressed your law, even by departing, that they might not obey your voice;” Daniel began with the words, “yes, all Israel” or “even so and indeed, each, every, the whole and everyone within Israel whose name means God prevails and is the name of the descendants and the nation of the descendants of Jacob” “have transgressed your law” which means “have traversed, overtook and swept by your, Jehovah God’s, precepts and commandments”, “even by departing” or “through the means of turning aside, leaving undone and rejecting”, “that they might not obey your voice” which means “so they, the people of Israel, would not have to give attention to, have interest in or perceive your, Jehovah God’s, spoken words”. Daniel said everyone within “Israel” violated the commandment of Jehovah God by leaving it so they would have no need to comply with his spoken word.
The verse goes on to say, “therefore the curse is poured upon us, and the oath that is written in the law of Moses the servant of God, because we have sinned against him.” Daniel continued with the words, “therefore the curse” or “wherefore, then and on this account the execration and swearing” “is poured upon us” which means “flows forth on us, Daniel and the people of Israel”, “and the oath that is written” or “and the attesting of innocence or something sworn that exists as inscribed and engraved” “in the law of Moses” which means “within the commandments, precepts and directions from Moses whose name means drawing out and was the prophet, lawgiver and leader of the exodus” “the servant of God” or “the worshiper, bondman and minister belonging to the Supreme Deity”, “because we have sinned against him” which means “since and on account that we, Daniel and the people of Israel, have missed the mark, erred and done wrong in opposition to him, Jehovah God”. Daniel said the consequence of execration flowed forth on him and the people of Israel for violating and not hearkening to the vocal speech concerning the commandments of Jehovah God given to them by “Moses”. (See Leviticus 26:14-20)
When we meditate upon the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel that there were consequences for not keeping the law of God. Daniel and the people of Israel suffered because they disobeyed God’s instructions, and the same is true for us when we violate God’s ways. God knows what is best for us, and because we have all sinned against Him, He sent His Only Begotten Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days. When we submit to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and provide us with His Holy Spirit who will guide us into all truth and empower us to obey what God has said.
Next time Daniel shares how God, “has confirmed his words”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
