In the book of Daniel, Daniel prayed to God and said, “O Lord, righteousness belongs unto you, but unto us confusion of faces, as at this day; to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and unto all Israel, that are near, and that are far off, through all the countries whither you have driven them, because of their trespass that they have trespassed against you. O Lord, to us belongs confusion of face, to our kings, to our princes, and to our fathers, because we have sinned against you. To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him”, and in chapter nine and verse ten of his book Daniel said,“Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God” where we read,
Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws,
which he set before us by his servants the prophets.
The verse reads, “Neither have we obeyed the voice of the LORD our God, to walk in his laws,
…” Daniel began with the words, “neither have we obeyed” or “no and not in any way have we, Daniel and the people of Israel, listened to, perceived, paid attention to or obeyed” “the voice” which means “the sound and noise of uttered words” “of the LORD our God” or “belonging to Jehovah whose name means the existing One and is the proper name of the One True God who was Daniel and the people of Israel’s Supreme Deity”, “to walk in his laws” which means “to amble about and make our way within his commandments, precepts, directions and instructions”. Daniel shared how neither he nor the people of Israel hearkened to the sound of uttered words from Jehovah God, and they did not obey His commandments.
The verse continues, “… which he set before us by his servants the prophets.” Daniel added the words, “which he set before us” or “that he, Jehovah God, put, fixed, placed and established in front and in the presence of Daniel and the people of Israel” “by his servants” which means “through the means of his, Jehovah God’s, ministers” “the prophets” or “the inspired spokesmen and speakers”. Daniel referred to how Jehovah God established His commandments and ways in the presence of him and the people of Israel through the speech of his inspired ministers.
When we consider the words in this verse, we see how Daniel employed the word “we” to describe both him and the people of Israel neglecting to obey the sound of inspired words from Jehovah God. God gave them His commandments by the means of his ministers who were “spokesmen” and “speakers” concerning the laws and ways of God, but they did not comply with God’s ways. God knows we will all violate His statutes, (See Romans 3:10, 23) and the wages for our sin is death. (See Romans 6:23) For this reason God sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind, and when He raised Him from the dead after three days, He made the way through faith and trust in Him as our “Savior and Lord” to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and given His Holy Spirit who will not only guide us into God’s truth, but also empower us to obey it.
Next time Daniel says, “all Israel have transgressed your law”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
