In the book of Daniel, Daniel said Gabriel spoke to him and said, “the ram which you saw having two horns are the kings of Media and Persia. And the rough goat is the king of Grecia: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. Now that being broken, whereas four stood up for it, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not in his power. And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practice, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand” in chapter eight and verse twenty-six of his book Daniel shared how Gabriel said, “shut you up the vision; for it shall be for many days” where we read,
And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true:
wherefore shut you up the vision; for it shall be for many days.
The verse reads, “And the vision of the evening and the morning which was told is true:” Daniel began with the words, “and the vision” or “and the mental imagery, appearance and sighting” “of the evening and the morning” which means “pertaining to the dusk or sunset and the dawn or break of day” “which was told” or “that was spoken, uttered and commanded” “is true” which means “exists as sure, reliable and faithful”. Daniel shared how Gabriel told him that the mental imagery given to him at dusk and at dawn was reliable and faithful.
The verse goes on to say, “wherefore shut you up the vision; for it shall be for many days.” Daniel continued with the words, “wherefore shut you up” or “therefore, then and on this account stop and keep closed and hidden” “the vision” which means “the mental imagery, appearance and sighting”; “for it shall be” or “because, since and on account that it, the vision, will exist” “for many days” which means “on behalf of an exceedingly great number of sunsets to sunrises”. Daniel shared how Gabriel told him to keep the mental imagery closed and hidden because it was to be on behalf of a great number of sunsets to sunrises.
When we mediate upon Daniel’s words in this verse, we learn how Gabriel confirmed that the “vision” given to him at dusk and in the dawn was indeed reliable and faithful, and for this reason, Daniel was to keep this “vision” hidden. The timing of this “mental imagery” was for a great number of days into the future, so Daniel was to keep the images secret. We, because he wrote them down, are able to see and discern these things today. God wants us to know Him, and He gave us the Bible to reveal Himself to us. He also sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind and raised Him from the dead after three days so we can be forgiven of our sins, grant us everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit when we put our faith and trust in Him. Let all who read these words know the love, knowledge and care that God has for us and our future.
