Daniel Not Eating, Drinking or Anointing Himself - Daniel 10:3

In the book of Daniel, Daniel said, “in the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks, and in chapter ten and verse three of his book Daniel shared how he did not eat, drink or anoint himself, “till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” where we read,

I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth,

neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.

The verse reads, “I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, …” Daniel began with the words, “I ate no pleasant bread” or “I, Daniel, consumed and devoured not any beautiful, delightful and delectable grain, loaf or food”, “neither came flesh" which means “did not any pudenda or animal meat” “nor wine” or “not any fruit of the vine did enter” “in my mouth” which means “within my, Daniel’s, orifice in the face for eating, drinking and eating”. Daniel shared how he did not eat any dainties or meat and did not drink any fruit of the vine until the following time.

The verse continues, “… neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel added the words, “neither did I anoint myself at all” or “no and not in any way did I, Daniel, smear or pour anointing oil upon my own self in any way or manner”, “till three whole weeks” which means “until the three entire weeks of seven days” “were fulfilled” or “existed as completed, accomplished and satisfied”. Daniel said he did not in any way put “anointing oil” upon himself in any way or manner until the “three weeks” were passed.

When we consider the words in this verse, we learn through Daniel how this “vision” caused him to go into a time of fasting and denial. Daniel knew this was another word from Jehovah God, and he was entrusted with it. There are times when it is best for us to fast and pray to God, especially when we are overwhelmed by revelation or circumstances given to us. God knows we will experience things that are too great for us to handle on our own, and for this reason He sent His Son Jesus into the world to die on the cross for the sins of all mankind. When He raised Him from the dead, He made the way for us to be forgiven of our sins, granted everlasting life and provided with His Holy Spirit who will comfort, guide and lead us by His truth as He empowers us to endure whatever our lots may bring.

Next time Daniel begins to tell what happened, “in the four and twentieth day of the first month”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.

Until tomorrow…there is more…
