In the book of Daniel, Daniel said, “as I was considering, behold, an he goat came from the west on the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. And he came to the ram that had two horns, which I had seen standing before the river, and ran unto him in the fury of his power. And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with choler against him, and smote the ram, and broke his two horns: and there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground, and stomped upon him: and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand”, and in chapter eight and verse eight of his book Daniel shared how, “the he goat waxed very great” where we read,
Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken;
and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.
The verse reads, “Therefore the he goat waxed very great: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken;” Daniel began with the words, “therefore the he goat” or “wherefore, then and on this account the male goat animal” “waxed very great” which means “was magnified and grew to be exceedingly powerful and mighty”: “and when he was strong” or “and at the time and moment he, the he goat, existed as powerful, mighty and with great ability”, “the great horn was broken” which means “the large, haughty and important protrusion became maimed, crippled, wrecked and crushed”. Daniel shared how the “he goat” grew to be exceedingly powerful and mighty, however, at the time of his great ability, the protrusion “between his eyes” was crippled and wrecked.
The verse continues, “and for it came up four notable ones toward the four winds of heaven.” Daniel added the words, “and for it came up” or “and on behalf of it, the notable horn, arose and were brought forth” “four notable ones” which means “four conspicuous and striking horns or protrusions” “toward the four winds of heaven” or “to the four breezes or directions of breezes (North, East, South and West) belonging to the sky and atmosphere”. Daniel shared how “four” conspicuous “horns or protrusions” arose which were from the “north, east, south and west”.
When we think through the words in this verse, we discover through Daniel that the “he goat” became exceedingly powerful, however, at the peak of it’s might, his “horn” was maimed. In the “horn’s” place arose four other conspicuous “horns”, and they went toward the north, east, south and west. We shall see what these were in our next few verses, but for now let us consider that Alexander the Great of Greece was cut down at a young age (32), and four other leaders took his place of rule in the various directions of the world. God oversaw all these things because they would lead to His Son Jesus being born and entering the world so He could die on the cross for the sins of everyone and to be raised from the dead after three days. When we yield our lives to Him, He will forgive our sins, grant us everlasting life and give us His Holy Spirit who will lead and guide us into the truth as He assures us that He has everything, nations and kingdoms, under His omnipotent control.
Next time Daniel says, “out of one of them came forth a little horn”, so read ahead, and we shall join together then.
Until tomorrow…there is more…
